In poker - there's a term called "fish". A fish has money and no skill. In the domain world - I've got neither money or skill - so I'm the biggest fish of them all.

I bought the two below based on their similarity to other domain sales success stories I found online.

CALIFORNIACARDEALERSHIPS.COM
HARRISBURGHOMEINSPECTORS.COM

Any ideas about their potential? Thoughts?

This is my intro to domaining, so I'd like to know if I'm on the right track.

Thanks!

I would not buy either name. Narrowing dealerships to California does not seem to be all that helpful. The home domain could sell if you found an inspector in the town you listed. I have metroareahomeinspectors which I think it substantially better, and it very well may never sell either.

Good luck

These domains are so long I get tired just by looking at them. They're very unlikely to sell.

Do yourself a favor and listen to every past episode of DomainSherpa portfolio review before you buy another name.

Thanks, Want2Learn. It's helpful to have a better understanding of the mindset behind what makes a name potentally "succesful" or not.

Thanks, Barman. I'm subbing that podcast now and also found the Domain Name Wire podcast.

You mentioned poker, I play as well. Even the very best players go on tilt . . . but the very best players can lay hands down and let losers go. This is a skill I have yet to master on the felt and with domaining. Just for illustrative purposes, I have MainstreetGuns dot com. There are 1000s of MainStreets in the US. Guns are popular. The mistake I may have made, and there may be others, MainstreetGuns is most likely to be purchased by an individual. People have money perhaps. People running their llc or sole proprietor businesses may not have funds available to get a name. I like the name that Ive mentioned. Its ceiling is capped bc of who might purchase it imo. I love language and I love words. I think my name is very appealing, but alas no sale as of now with the name.

If I were a pitfall go getter, I would contact those home inspectors in the town. But again it is very specific. I could not use the name as an inspector in NYC. Make sense?

1. Demand for the words or term
2. Appropriateness for that particular markets advertising or Identity (Size of that market)
3. Easy readability and memorability (keep it short if possible)
4. Suitability of the extension
5. Uniqueness in terms of options available (variations)

Geo's will always heavily restrict your market and plurals further so

Good-Luck

Hello,

With that hand, I would fold :P
Too long, hard to type, not memorable, don't see great traffic there either.

Good luck
