domain .work in re: ONLY the most expensive .com's ? - VacationRentals.work

Hi;
Have been stashing .com's, mostly one-word, for 18 yrs. Looked up 250 highest reported domain sales, and then bought the .work versions of all that were available, from looooong names (VacationRental and VacationRentals.work to smaller ones that may also rock at some point, ie: slots and roulette, along with generally high-value words such as kredit, kasino, and so on.

Would be grateful for opinions. Thanks, and cheers.

Great question. 1) Have collected .com's for many years, mostly one-word. Rarely sold any in first 15 to 16 years. Bought shortcuts.work having built 2,389 "shortcuts" websites, and, every time I said it out loud at health-related & other conferences, people just lit up: Must've had a dozen people exclaim, "You're right, they do!" ... which of course engenders everyone chuckling.

One night, was literally in the chair of a team owner in his office. Reg'd several .com's for him, and was so challenged by not finding even ONE of 70 one-word .com's he wanted, started searching for other tld's. While doing this, he starts a conversation on boxing. For words like boxer, champs, swimmers, none of the majors are available, of course, and then, WHAM! First we find that those words were all available.... in .work ONLY and then, difficult to explain, more than 200 athletic/sports-related domains flew out of my fingers as if my client were controlling them... and every doggone one were available ... in .work. Most were, very notably, not available in .com, .net., .org, .US, or even .info, .cc., .ca, etc.

Keep in mind, all this time, several of us are saying these domain names out loud.... and they just sound FAR better than .com. C'mon, give it a try: "twisted.work, validating.work, unflawed.work, lasers.work" - Just has a nice ring, especially if it's, say, medical or legal, ala CriminalLaw.work or adoption or franchises, etc.

2) Returning home same night, the .work light bulb went on. If you're a true domainist, you're going to have to love this. CANNOT BELIEVE a million people twice as smart did not have either the hunger or maybe just initiative or creativity to follow #1 rule of the Psychology of Shortcuts: "Imitate the actions... or nearly so... of masters and millionaires, in order to imitate their results, or nearly so."

Who knows better than the people who've sold their domains for the greatest amounts? LOL: Simply looked for lists (no two are identical) of "HIGHEST REPORTED DOMAIN SALES."

Started with the two most expensive reported sales ... and both were available ... in, you guessed it, .work
Registered several hundred that early morning, and have repeated it several times since. Cannot stress enough to people that, yes, there are thousands and thousands of one-word domains available in other gtlds.

Last, not least. 99.99% of all great one-word .com's are either unavailable, or outlandishly priced. We tapped into some major vein here by backing off initial high asking prices. By asking "only" 20 to 1,000x our money back, the difference is night and day.

Combine all that w/ realizing that, with 2,400 highly-ranked sites created over the past 26 years, backlinks to these new .work domains are treasurable. So, instead of selling all these domains now, have begun rapid design of a hosted website for each domain, replete with juicy backlnks from our other sites. Thanks to member here, I'm getting it that creating logos for many one-word brandable .com's will also be a big help (This forum is awesome. First time in 26 yrs online I can remember paying to belong to a forum!)

NOTE: As a friendly "eff you" to the entire .com paradigm, majority of best backlinks will come from some of my NON dot-coms, lololol, ie: Shortcuts.me, enjoy'g #1 on google for at least 8 keyphrases, such as "greatest success shortcuts" (sometimes just "greatest shortcuts" by itself).... and, yessir, backlinks from Shortcuts.work. Cheers. Thanks for good question. Hope newbies recognize that most of my best secrets are no more and no less than the secrets of people smarter than several of us combined.

(Make no mistake, you can see at SweeterDomains & SweetestDomains.com, OneWordSites & OneWordDomaining.com, we're not lacking in .com's, we've simply become convinced that, with over a MILLION people going online for the first time every week after week, and because .work is in some ways better than .com - and by a sizable margin in plenty of cases... the 10-year opp'y to multiply the # of cups of food raised at M>S sites for starving kids ... is the cornerstone of thinking behind WHY it was so easy to fall in love with .work.

Taped.work. C'mon, deadly.work? Handbags.work? Marvelous words, right? -- AND THEY ALL WORK, so to speak.

Just playing devil's advocate here... and also potentially protecting newbies who might read your post, get excited and spend a few thousand buying .work domains...

Can you prove that there is a market for these? How many have you sold and for what prices? Was it all outbound / clients... or were they listed on marketplaces and you got offers?

I personally can't even find 10 .work domains that have sold for over 1k.

Very interested in getting clarification on this opportunity for the community.

Once again, great questions.
1) Proof? Hm. Invented a new technology & 19 successful devices. Not the type to leap into "k's" of investment w/out having succeeded at it beforehand

2) NONE sold on marketplaces, and have never received an unsolicited offer. We reach out w/ simple emails, now also posting occasional posts at sites that are actually "into" these subjects. Just started that last weekend.

3) Only one sold above 1k (quite a bit) in nearly 2 yrs of loving .work domains. Most all have sold for just 233 to 610 each, and 2 sold at 987 (only fibonacci #'s). Unlike my fellow citizens who seem to be insane, getting 610 for a domain we reg'd for $2 x 2 to 10 years is a MAGNIFICENT thing I'm grateful for. Yes, even a "measly" $233 is still 50 to 100x what we paid.

As we're hoping to get people to understand, asking insane numbers sounds great to the ego, yet, the gate did not open for SIXTEEN YEARS... when we finally started letting .com's go for 300 to 2k, and it never would've happened without having bought .work domains.. and then selling them, almost exclusively for 'mere' hundreds. Greed is a silly obstacle to succeeding at this, or anything.

4) We're guesstimating that my building a couple of hundred .work websites with these domains, WITH backlinks from many of our respected sites, we might well elevate this corner of the market. With no more great .com's (one-word) to buy, the .work tld is here we choose to proactively help build its repute ... and 'salesworthiness'

Understand, for nearly two years after gaining tld status, Google (et alia) were banning .work from search, and most often not even allowing you to visit via browser, thanks to all the morons who spammed endlessly. By the time I'd built a dozen respectable .work sites (hosted, not just forwarding), suddenly they began appearing on Google.

In full disclosure, google has repeatedly knocked some waaaay back down from first page to eighth and ninth pages, yet, there is no doubt that the high-quality backlinks are doing their job, because they've not been knocked OFF search engines, only downwards. So far, we see 5 of them coming back up again, and expect it to continue as I make time to build more actual websites for the .work domains.

Ecosia.org (no tracking and they plant trees with all advert income), has dozens of our .work sites listed, Bing and MSN, several others, also listing them w/out knocking them down.

In sum, it's a process, and we're using each masterful shortcut we can find or develop to accelerate the growth, acceptance, and profitability of .work domains, although heaven knows, even a few hundred is staggering profit, exponential to cost.

I read the OP's post above as anti-promo for .work, as he basically says even among ngtlds this extension was a pariah and top premium words were available for him to snatch.

Also, it sounds very fakish, when someone so experienced, as the OP states, was naively searching for nice one-worders in .com to handreg! In 2019!!! Were you hibernating for last 24 years and then woke up??

I 100% respect the smaller profit per domain method... it's not one that I use, but some of my domaining coaches actually advocate it, and I can see the wisdom.

Your posts should enlighten beginners as to what to expect, and I 100% wish you the best... there is risk to this strategy, but the payout could be MASSIVE in the event that the .work domain gains traction.

For those with funds for speculation, this is certainly a fun and exciting game... I've done similar in other areas and have seen good returns when done carefully.

I've been lately considering doing something similar in a different extension... maybe not as big, but very similar in that its highly speculative.

B) Have been building 2,389 free sites (wealth and health shortcuts) for more than 25 years, so the domains were bought for us, not for sale in early years. Just now becoming a "domainist" past year or so. The other member's comments about 'little value' in these is confusing. Hoping you'll be kind enough to answer one other question, as my knowledge of putting sites in #1 position is indisputable, yet knowledge of domaining industry is, at best, abecedarian.

To wit, high-value .com's, such as roulette, slots, VacationRentals, VacationRental, Pornography and FreePorn, even great words like endorsement, endorsements, jackpots, & perhaps a hundred others, all those .com's went for big money. My question is, in your CLEARLY learned opinion, am I more likely deceiving myself on the .work versions being worth at least 1 to 2% of the .com?

2nd half of "asking for less" is predominantly a preference to sell them to real people, not corporations. Far too old to care about making more money; empowering others appears to be the most youthifying of activities, along w. charitable efforts.

Seems to me one key relates to your comment "in the event that the .work domains gain traction:" With a million people going online for the first time EVERY WEEK, is it not inevitable for such a great extension to gain traction? They ARE statements as well as a domain, (unflawed.work, boxers.work, etc). Plus, unlike .com's, they're available! Now that search engines look more before the DOT, not so much after it, isn't one word still king, still more vital than .com?

There are thousands of domain extensions from legacy, to ccTLD, to repurposed ccTLD, to new gTLD.

I fail to see what makes .work special in relation to all the others.
