I notice so many new extensions coming out.

What is the consensus that dot com still rules to roost?

I have never owned nor purchased anything other then .com names.

People used to really harp about short domains. I don't hear than much anymore. If three and four word domains are acceptable there is much less need to move away from dot com. I think Google has really devalued keyword domains so there is less demand for domains for mini-sites.

I think it's too early to rule out .mobi

I don't think .com will ever lose its crown, isn't it what people first think of when they want to type a URL?

No. Most peoples first thought is the subject. So porn or sex.

i've got names in shitloads of tlds but somehow 99.5% of unsolicited inquiries are about the .coms (in fact i don't even remember when I got one for a non .com)

you can test it yourself with other tlds and report your results

Of course, that's not going to change.

"I think Google has really devalued keyword domains so there is less demand for domains for mini-sites."

That's still not true.
