Will Google Deliver The Death Blow For BANS Sites?

Some interesting observations and possible fixes for the BANS deindexing in Google.

Follow the links out in the article for more help on how BANS can still work if done properly.

Google and BANS. Once we thought this was a match made in Heaven. Nowadays, if you’re a BANS owner, you probably think you’ve been in affiliate marketing Hell. First there was the Ebay Partner Network canning hundreds of eBay affiliates, many who had Build A Niche Storesites up, and now Google has been either penalizing or out right deindexing BANS sites from the SERPS.

Yeah, for some of you BANS owners, it’s been a pretty tough last few months.

Good Luck,
Cy

EDIT:
Please read the whole article.. it explains which sites were banned, and why.. what not to do.

I hate to say this, but it's probably a smart move by Google; they need to keep their results relevant and competitive.

Believe it was last year when google and EBay had a spat and EBay pulled all ads they ran on google for couple days. EBay is one of the largest advertisers on google

I think google pissed off EBay when they were hosting a party either in new york or Boston and the big google had set up there own party right down the block from there's. I am not 100 percent sure on that but almost sure

So its more of a personal agenda I think

Google needs EBay, EBay needs google.

Google stepping on a few toes that's for sure. Parking, domainers, EBay and list goes on.

No Jeff, it is not a personal agenda. The banned sites were straight up cookie cutter punch outs, with no mods and no added content.
It is explained well in the article, and some advanced workarounds are suggested in links.

Couldn't have said it better. BANS sites for the most part are worse than MFA as they contain no content at all and nothing that even the most novice Internet user can't find on their own.

Google just wants to ban anyone/company that is a competitor to them. It's competition..... not the quality of the BANS sites that irks Google. Think about it..... most of the sites in the SERPS are not even as good as a BANS site ;)

I actually find the BANS sites to be interesting, fun, and relevant 90% of the time. I can't see why anybody would not like them. Those sites sure do sell product like crazy..... so the surfers must like them....... and therfore BANS is stealing sales away from other merchants, paid or not, on Google.... and Google does not like it.

I think BANS sites are 100 times better than MFA..... at least there are products you are looking for. I can't tell you how many times I came across one and impulsively started searching the listings..... that has never happened to me with Google's ads on a MFA.

Regarding development, some of the BANS sites could be better if they would just spend an hour or two developing more relevant content..... at the least a guide to what the surfer is looking to buy.

So parking pages are better?

I think both are equally worthless though BANS sites are more misleading.

Does that Google ban also count for the "Easy Affiliate - ebay version" from YourOwnWeb?

It's not just BANS its ebay built websites. I have built a few RSS based ebay sites and one was recently dropped and it is all very original. I should check my other ones, they too have probably been dropped by now too...

Well without a unique layout and essentially copy and paste content i think BANS sites are useless. They are basically just putting out the same product ebay already has listed. Nothing unique and i can see why Google would want to drop these types of sites, they do not offer anything unique to provide in the results.

You are better off making a blog with unique content and just using the ebay affiliate in the sidebar. Much better looking and its unique. Plus who really wants to spend $100 on something that is free?

The sites without unique content and that re being slapped together are the ones being punished. ;)

I do not have "bans", but the result of measures like this will could be many sites with unique content, but at the same time totally meaningless content as some people will be payed just to put a few "meaningless"words on paper with (ebay) ads on the side. Basicly people will get deceived into reading total crap and waste time.
I have seen this from a number of sites I had made for me. They have 5 pages of unique content(e.g last three domains in sig), but at the same time 500 words(repeating keywords a lot as that is "so good for seo") are wasted for something that could have been said in 15 words.
I could blame it on the people who make the sites for me, but looking at the sites others post at namepros here and there, basicly 90 % of the sites from NP members are made with only "money from ads" in mind and content is very meaningless in general.
Only the domainers who think long term(not me) and really offer their readers/customers something worth reading should survive and if google gets that done would be great , but for the next two years I can see more and more people put up unique, yet meaningless content.

I assume those of you who think BANS is worthless also don't have any domains parked.

Ive been banned from Google with my BANS site on a .com.au seems like they just dont like them, due to lack of content.

Good move, no one wants or needs these spam sites. Just a way for some people to make a quick buck, especially the creator of BANS.
