Why would someone spend the dough?

I figure of anyplace where I would get a logical answer to this question, it would be here...

There is a domain that I have been interested in getting for some time (YoL.com) and it went to auction a year or so ago on SnapNames and sold for @ $5500... and there have been many that have sold at that amount, or much more, thru SnapNames so I am not suprised how much someone paid. With that being said, besides traffic revenue, why would someone spend that kinda dough and not do anything with it?

perhaps I'm just bitter because I was outbid...

Otherwise the buyers are investors and are waiting a few years to resell them for far more or they are developers, waiting for the right time to develop.

Exactly. Resale value is more than double and I'm talking about reseller (not end user) pricing.

Agreed. I would have figured the domain would have gone for over $6,500. A solid buy IMO.

When you drive-thru a nice neighbor hood and see an empty lot, you think I wonder why nobody built a house on that lot yet..... Most likely the owner is waiting for the right price/time to sell. Same thing with many domains.

A very high percentage of domains go undeveloped no matter what somebody paid for them. I have seen some in the high $xx,xxx-$xxx,xxx range sit blank, or close to blank. Did you ever go to Tit.com What a waste, but it's the owners choice what to do with it. I agree, it's pretty said that SO many domains are undeveloped.

This makes the most sense... I see what you're saying now much more clearly now.

What about all the 3 characted .eu names that are dropping now... same approach there on those? Like a stock, buy low, hold it, and sell high?

It happens. There was a 3-character .net buyout not long ago but many of the owners just let them drop. NOW, a 3-char .com has a base price of at LEAST $100 so no one would just let one drop. The 3-char .nets aren't quite there yet; you can buy them for a few bucks. 3-char .eu likely is in the same boat; they might not have enough value for owners to care renewing them for.

It's just an investment for future profits. Just like buying stocks & holding onto it

Jeff Abrahamson owns it. By browsing the site, I see he uses the domain for email, among other things. He is willing to lease the domain.

At first I thought the whole domain was just a blank page with the color purple, but then I noticed a small link to a FAQ page that displays momentarily as you first load the main page.
