I was browsing the for sale advertising forum and i found that there are too many "stickys" and its not comfortable for a user to browse that page.. some of them can even be considered as spam.

Heres the link to the page im talking about:

Thanks, fuser

You can buy the ability to sticky a thread for a certain period in the store. It looks like a lot of people are using the facility at the moment. It might possibly be worth limiting how many can be stickied at once (or even setting a higher price for more popular areas)

Or it could be the Bid for the Places :)

EX: we can allow 5 threads and if someone wants to sticky his thread then he has to outbid the last one in that top 5 positions to get his sticky thread at 5th position :)

Just an idea but this decisions management makes themselves.

Thanks.

I think maybe you can buy it for 1 week and only 5 spots will be sold per week and spots can be reserved..

If you buy a spot and someone bids more for your spot, will you get your money back or you will lose it because someone made a bigger bid?

Thanks, fuser

If someone bids more then your thread might move to lower place.

Till there are enough bids to shift you out of first 5 places :)

Why couldn't they be moved to something like "Spot MarketPlace" that has the description of "The best offers out of the group" or something.

That would not necessarily be truthful tho would it. Just because someone decided to pay for a sticky does not mean it is the best in the forum. If too much got put there that was not worth much then people would stop reading it.

This would not necessarily be the best option. I think a queue system would be better.

With your proposal you having the following issue.

thread a bids 100 namebucks
thread b bids 200 namebucks
thread c bids 300 namebucks
thread d bids 400 namebucks
thread e bids 500 namebucks

but after the specified period thread d is dropped (threads only stay up for 14 days). Now thread f wants to be stickied how much do they have to pay? And what about the threads that had been outbid?

Also if someone pays for their thread to be stickied for 14 days they will not be too happy if the next day they find their thread has been outbid and dropped from being stickied. This could potentially happen with your suggestion.

I think the easiest solution would be to limit the forum to just 5 stickies and then incrementally raise the price until demand goes down to a more reasonable level.

True. Here is another one. 5 - 5 threads package. The next date would be Lets say after 14 days and people can bid for it. The top 5 bidders will get that positions for other 14 days. Till the the next auction can start for top 5 positions in stickies. More or less same as the Live auction thing which is been used.

This is just an idea though Not even a suggestion because I am not so sure what kind of effects this would be having.

One side effect is: A person would have to wait for next 14 days threshold to get the thread posted.

I don't understand the problem, when I click on the advertising page I expect to see advertising. Like all media, there's a premium for high-traffic space. i don't see the difference whether an ad is a sticky or not or why it should cause discomfort.

With so many stickies any new posts are right down the bottom of the page as soon as they have been posted. Within an hour or so the chances are it will be on page 2. A lot of people will be missing these threads because they may only check page 1.
