Which registrar?

Hey,
I've used several registrars in my domain buying experience. Right now, I'm using 1&1 for just a few of my domains. Most people say they don't like it, so which registrar would you recommend? I'd like a good price (1&1 has 5.99).

How's aplus.net?

I've read bad things about aplus on this forum I believe (do a search).
Personally I like Namecheap, Moniker, Dynadot.
Just be wary of registrars that are selling at a loss. FYI 1&1 is making a loss with domains at 5.99. They have to offset the loss with other services like hosting or poor/inexistent customer service. You get what you pay for.
IMO it's not worth the hassle just to save 1 buck or 2. $7 or $8/y would be a decent price. IMO you can't go wrong with the few I mentioned, there are others of course.

If you're worried about price, DomainSite is good at $6.99/yr while still having decent support.

My absolute favorite registrar, however, is Moniker. I got a response to my email in literally 3 minutes. They also let you delete newly registered domains in the 4-day "Grace period" for a refund minus a 25 cent drop fee. If you email them and say you're from NamePros, they'll lower your rates to $7.95/yr

About Moniker, aren't they just for Big Time Domainers, or can you be a little guy with 2 or 3 at a time. Do i have this correct that if you park with them they have some type of Domain Monetization were they kinda optimize your domain. I had visited the site before and it seems like they only want Big Players? I am Wrong??

I recommend Moniker for domainers with growing portfolios that need security. However for the average webmaster I would think NameCheap would be excellent. They have fair pricing but offer excellent support. Steer clear of domainsite, registerfly, aplus, and 1&1.

I love namecheap, I usually use a coupon and can buy a domain for 7.98. They are very fast in support and they have a nice control panel. I also like the auctions they have, free enlisting with 10% of the sale price, but very hassle free.

I use them, but I'm kind of a newbie so I assume they're like Nike, you pay a little more for the name Nike but you can also buy from Reebok.

DomainSite, NameCheap, GoDaddy and DynaDot have all served me well. Oh, and NamesPro.ca for .ca domains.
1&1, NetFirms and RegisterFly have not been a pleasure to deal with.

Nike might think your analogy is a bit of a put down,
GD is more like going to Wal-Mart,

Domain names are all the same who ever you buy off,
But it is the service and the interface that can make all the difference

Policies are also important and Godaddy has terrible ones. Like the $30 paperwork fee if they get any legal notices.

Moniker, moniker, moniker. I have accounts with maybe 20-30 registrars, but am gradually moving most of my names over to moniker, and they are definitely who I now make fresh registrations with. I still don't mind Godaddy though, they have a few crummy parts but the real bonus is that if you sell names to resellers, almost everyone has an account with them. The thing that gets on my wick with them most is the ridiculous number of 'offers' screens you have to bypass to actually checkout and pay, I'm sure Bob Parsons would offer his gran up in a "Wait! Limited time Offer" type page if he thought some unsuspecting newbie might actually be fooled into thinking the purchase was necessary.

LOL!!!

I'm pretty new to domains but I've already caught the bug and bought well over 100. I've been using mainly namecheap but also have some on other registrars, although I've not dealt with Moniker so far. I will definately give them a try though, as you guys seem to be pretty pleased with them.

If you're just after the cheapest rates, check out domparison.com - I've made it to list all the cheapest prices for the main domain extensions, hopefully people will find it pretty useful. I'm aiming to use each of the registrars I list on there, then if any of them are rubbish I won't list them any more.

I really like namecheap. Great support very easy to use website, and can pay with paypal . Godaddy is too confusing and they steal domains.

Yeah I've heard that - my friend wanted to reserve the .com for his name and searched for it on Godaddy. It said it was available then, when he went back the next day to reserve it, it had been reserved... by Godaddy. Nice touch.

don't touch 1+1 with a bargepole.
The 3 registrars with consistent approval ratings at namepros are godaddy, namecheap + moniker. stay with these and you will be OK as a domainer.

do not go with aplus.net. Bad customer service and they offer you all kinds of crap you don't need

I have used domainsite, namecheap, godaddy....but none are perfect...

domainsite has downtime episodes, godaddy has terrible policies, and namecheap only tackles easy customer support question...throw them a tough one and see if they respond...

But I'd still think namecheap is relatively the better one...whois guard free for 1st year and also a great control interface...only thing they dont have is domain expiry date synchronization which godaddy has...

Best to avoid 1&1, registerfly, aplus, ipowerweb...low prices and low support with problems later...
