Selling vs. Reselling - Differences?

I'm a newbie and I've looked in a few forums but have not seen the answer to this. What is the difference (if any) between buying domain names and selling them independently, vs. joining a reseller "program" and selling that way? Do any of the reseller programs work like the actual registrar you sign up with, i.e. the buyer looks up domain name availability and purchases it through you (without your having to "buy" a finite list first), or does one always have to create and buy domain names first to resell them?

I hope my question made sense. I've been confused by the reseller programs I've seen (on aplus.net, godaddy, etc.) vs. just buying up a bunch of domain names directly from the registrar and selling them on a website, ebay, etc.

I do both, with a reseller site your your own regisrtar in a way. You also make commisions on all sales including the domains you purchase with intent to resell. so if you market/advertise and seo properly, you can eventually do pretty well.

If you are planning to resell a lot of domains then I'd say go for a reseller program as most of the time they give more discounts which allows you save quite lot of money. If you are just doing it every little while, then there is no really need to spend extra money to buy reseller programs. However, there is a good benefit for reseller programs as you can earn additional commissions for other purchases via your site.

Domains Seller [Registrar] - Godaddy.com, enom.com, name.com etc

Domains Reseller - NameCheap.com , Namepros.com etc

To be a registrar you need to have lots of money and you would earn a lot too, but being a reseller you don't need huge amount money , still you can earn.

Become a registrar is not a easy thing but become a reseller to a registrar nothing..

If you are a bulk domain buyer or you have lot of domains become a reseller is a good choice because you can buy or renew domains for a better price.

You get a duplicate mini site of a registrars web site, all functionality is same that but it will show your domain name and you can choose different colors or theme for your site.
