When emoji domains exploded on the market a lot of namepros members thought they were the next big ticket to making money. Like a lot of new things there was the initial land rush and even a few extraordinary sales.

The question is where are they today? I cannot remember coming across even a single emoji domain advertised anywhere or even used for commercial purposes.

How many namepros members still own emoji domains and do you expect to make a profit from them?

Who has given up on them and who has lost money on them.

Will they become more useful in the future or will they just fade into oblivion?

Lets discuss and get some feedback from both sides of the coin.

I would love to own an interesting one, but only 1 emoticon in length, not more. It's a new world, mobile rules, and a new generation who grew up with these entering the workforce. Would invest in one COM if I can find it cheap, NET only if it's very good.
You probably won't find one in .com for cheap- they are super rare since they cannot be registered anymore.

There is no such thing as emojis in .net.

Your best bet is to look into the .ws or .to ccTLD extensions, where you can find sub-1k from investors or even still hand register.

I find them interesting too! I mean, what other kind of domain can you do something eye-catching like:

Look Great to me as well! Thanks always, to @Page Howe , for keep us up on the awesome, niche, (great for marketing campaigns) domains - in .WS.

I have had a biz card for (well over a yr) that is nothing but a black card (front & back) with a big

spouting-whale_1f433.png
.ws (looks a bit nicer than this pic, but you get the idea)

It's perfect at trade shows (for example) as people are interested and will pull out their phone (the Emoji Domain sweet spot) and go right to - where ever you are point your emoji.

With this way - use where mobile is very likely - is great with 2 char as well as the goal is to have the card + a captive audience + (hopefully thiers, but your in case) a mobile phone in hand.

I have had positive responses and much attention when I pull pout and explain the card.

almost two years now come September..NP displaying emojis @Page Howe ;)

Anyone else thinks it sucks the .ai extension killed all emojis with them? I think it was a year or two back, but man, some of them went really great with .ai, eg. the robot, computer, yin yang emojis

**

get offers around the $500 mark for my single character .ws emojis, simply cannot accept.. many of these are so rare. once you sell it's gone forever.

Exactly. Why dont we feel and price our other domains the same way. There is only one of every domain. Hmmmm

True, only one of every, but with emojis there are literally only 3 or 4 extensions that allow them, I think that's why.

I was able to create an emoji domain on the new .zil extension. I did it during the pre-order, it doesn't look like you can register them now.

๐Ÿ’ฐ.zil

I thought this was perfect for a crypto wallet :)

yes it does! You have to use the extension or the dedicated browser, but it worked just fine for me!! I was so excited that I went to try and get some more. That's when I found out you can't register them any more.

Ah well, I suppose there's my answer. I had just sent a message off to UD support regarding this, why new searches come up as "invalid domain".

You've got a bit of a keeper there, Sarah.Kate.

TBH, if @Unstoppable Domains want to distinguish themselves as truly independent of ICANN rules, they should open up puny-code for emoji registrations.

Users have to learn for themselves what the proper domain is when they click it or enter it into the url bar or receive emails. We don't need to be babysat on this stuff, yet ICANN paints everyone with the same brush making us all dummies, thus disallowing emoji registrations on the major TLDs.

I hate that everyone has to pay the price for the people that don't know what they are doing. I thought the uncensored web (blockchain domains) would do away with this.

I remember there wasn't a rush on them and almost the opposite and would take a lot of convincing to get people to buy them.

What I do have is smuggish dot com maybe that smug face emjoi owner will want it.

Here are the major pros for emojis that given the right marketing campaign by a major influencer would work wonders:

1. Standardization and global universal support
2. Built-in ios & android keyboard
3. Mainstream appeal and consciousness (even our parents use them now)

I've made a few recent investments myself that I'll share with everyone soon.
