Weird things about a domain name I am trying to acquire!!

Hi All,

I've been waiting for a domain name with godaddy to drop and right now its whois shows as Inactive and in redemption period.

Today, I went to godaddy and searched for the name and it said available.. but when I tried to login and pay for it by clicking submit order, I am getting the error saying some domains in your cart are invalid and that I cannot purchase them. Now when I go back and search availability for the domain name, it says unavailable.

I tried multiple browsers and I see the same issue. Anyone here knows whats really happening?

Thanks for replying... it shows unavailable on every other registrar. Maybe domains in redemption period with godaddy have this behavior for some reason. Anybody faced this issue?

When a domain name is in redemption, it is unavailable to register. The original registrant still can pay the redemption fee. There is also a good chance that it went to Godaddy Auctions and was purchased and its simply waiting for the expiration period for its transferred to the new owner.

Ok.. if it went to the auctions and was purchased by someone else, would that person's name start showing right away in whois or after the expiration date?

If the domain has not been renewed or transferred by the former owner, the new owner's whois details should show up 45-46 days after expiration.

If the domain was not picked up at Go Daddy auction, then it will drop on day 75 or 76 after expiration.

Once the auction ends the original registrant still has a limited window to Renew/Redeem the domain name. Once that period has expired the domain is transferred.
