Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

Well you know how negotiations work; start high sell high. Plus there is always the mystery of unreported sales. Nobody ever will truly know how much certain names are being sold for that are under NDA.

Remember Elephant? If someone told you that was a million dollar domain I'm sure most people would scoff at that too.

Starting high is fine, but that is ridiculous, people just laugh at you and walk away when you quote that price to start off with, especially with an emerging technology

Most of the app companies will be brandables anyway (Whatsapp, Viber, etc), the same way most apps for phones and tablets are.

It is probable that the owner does not want to undersell the domain and it is also probable that the owner is in no rush to sell the domain either.

It's likely the owner is using the "go big or go home" mentality and as VR as an emerging technology, he can afford to do that for at least 3-5 years.

The owner is probably hoping for some big corporation with more money than sense to purchase it or they might buy it as a tax write off. I agree with what your saying but with emerging tech, who knows 100% at this point...

Personally I think good luck to him. If it does sell for that price, that's only better for all of us.

New sales popping up on Namebio almost every day now. Too bad most of them are between domainers though.

Has anyone visited VRapp? They have an 'make an offer' statement of minimum $490k, considering the app market is huge I think that's a justifiable price for a VR application marketplace. What do you think?

490k is highly unlikely as the market is very immature yet, it maybe worth it in a year or two.

vrapps.com is not worth nearly half a million and never will be, it doesn't matter how mainstream VR tech becomes

A New Market Arrives
Whether the Vive makes the originally announced end of 2015 launch date or not, 2016 will still be the first real year for consumer VR. An entire market will finally come to reality, and that is only the first step for a technology that has been dreamt and written about for decades.

"In the next few years, it’s largely going to be driven by gamers and technology enthusiasts, the kind of people who are willing to invest in the hardware that it’s going to take to get something on the cutting edge," says Luckey. "As you start to have a more diverse array of content—things like education, telepresence, business training—that’s going to go hand in hand with reductions in price and increases in comfort, and make it accessible to a wider range of people. And make it so a wider range of people want to use VR. It's one thing to impress people with a demo. It’s another to keep them coming back every single day. And you have to have compelling content to do that."

... yet DataRecovery.com sold for 1.7 million, to a company that was branded. You don't have to go either or Giles, and many branded companies go and buy the exact match.

If the VR market continues to grow with the players that are involved if I were Facebook or Microsoft I would want the exact match DN under my control... and $500k is what, a minute worth of profit with a billion dollar up side for owning an exact match domain.

Its easy to say this wont or that wont, but my scenario is more plausible than just offering up a 'no way' based on a companies original branding strategy.

Companies with the big budgets dont go with the exact match, like Microsoft get hololens and trademarks holotour, holostudio, touchback, Continuum etc, they want their won products names, not generic names like that..its just what they always do

If Microsoft or google decided to launch a VR app, they will have a product name for it, they wont be grabbing VRapp as their domain name...you only have to look at the history of these big companies...something like GoogleVR.com or VGoogle.com would make sense to them, the same as GMail.com GoogleDrive.com, GoogleGlass, com, they TM it and then register they names to go with the TM

Data Recovery is their business name and what they use as their main site...thats comparing apples and oranges

Their name was ESS data recovery. So they could have gone with ESS, and "branded" buy they didn't.

I understand branding 101, but there are also just as many case studies pertaining to exact match domain's, and high value sales. They still do work well for todays SEO for guiding user input for link tags, which improves ranking for the keyword....

Agree to disagree.

Ok, let's wait and see what sort of price it goes for...its certainly won't be near that figure imo....however, its still a nice name

??????????

Toys-R-Us / Toys.com

Having a category killing name is a plus no matter how you look at it.
Many buy a broad generic and forward it to their name page.
Natural Traffic has value. If you don't take it, your competitor might.
Of course, tru went belly up for other reasons and bankruptcy judge ordered toys.com to auction. Lost track of it after that.

Thanks guys. I think VR domains are sexier than IoT domains. Feel free to show me otherwise.

There's already been a $10K sale for VRXXX, can't get more sexier than that!

VR+Keyword rolls off your tongue, IoT+Keyword doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Just my opinion and I'm very biased of course!

@FX SOLD | SEDO| .COM iotgroup | $10,000 |
Now IOT is sexy two! don't bent on one VRhorse..:) :)
Money is sexy!

I know, Just answering your question:)

You have quoted me from 3 weeks ago, as people were having mini discussion on IOT at the time. Fine.

Lets keep things VR related please.

I have congratulated him in the IOT thread.

You can show me IOT domains in PM to your hearts content if you want.

Cheers
