Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

Good thing I have VrIqTest....

IQ only has 300 000 mothly searches.
IQtest has 1000 000. :P

And for a brandable I think iqvr sounds better.

It's because many of them would like a name for their blog etc and ask for a price and hear or see listed prices like $2K for names not worth 2x hand reg and most of them can't afford $200 for a blog domain.

Many buyers can not understand when the name is parked, they consider that you are not using it and they would. You are just holding it hostage.

I always say to them I've been holding it all this time for possibly you. Would you prefer that I was using it and it was not for sale ? Would you feel better?

5-8 years ago, many would make a living selling names to bloggers at $50-100. But somewhere along the line, to many think valuations are very high and can't seem to understand who might actually buy the name (you have to have a need) and why anyone would be willing to pay more than 3 figures for it ( a very great need with a bank role to back that need )

I can only say that if you really think a domain is worth more to anyone than a blogger, you had better be able to back that up with data or I hope you have not bet your lunch money on holding them.

There is not going to be more than a few hundred major players in this VR space over the next 5 years. Add to that generic uses like sports, concerts, and photography/videoography, chatrooms, games, entertainment and porn and you might have a additional 200 keywords and perhaps you might have 3000 names of use and value (over $1000) .And a few hundred worth more than 25k and less than 50 worth more than 250k. (estimating the high side)

If anyone thinks that is off-the mark show me what happened with smartphones/iphones/android phone/cell phone domains. Don't tell me that VR is going to be different because in a short 7 year period cellphone/smartphone has taken the consumer market worldwide as the no1 consumer product. VR has no chance of that saturation level in 10 years. It will be lucky if it meets twice the level of all game consoles sales in 3 years. Smartphone domains are in demand as it relates to "APPS" only. A secondary but strong and unpredictable market.

Someone please explain to me who might use JesusChristVR outside of a blogger and why it has the potential to be worth more than $200.
If it is a good key word, it will quickly fill in .net .org .info and others.
Sure many of the public are mad when they see those prices.
To many are polishing distortions into their crystal ball.

"sometimes" I agree with them. But in the end you pays your money and takes your choice.

Good luck.

So in summation; do your research and sell B2B not to bloggers. I think we all can agree with that. I don't think anyone really uses that blogger model anymore.

As far as "JesusChristVR"; who knows. There could be a mega-church that wants to create a boxed simulation of JC for in home preaching. If that is the case, it would be worth at least $xxxx to them.

It's a stretch, but nobody ever knows for sure. Some of domain investing is predictive and imaginative.

tempted to take $1500 on VRShip ..hmmm

I probably would take it and then reinvest a portion back into VR, say 25-30%

Even the most stupid VR names CAN be worth a lot, because no one knows what the future holds.
So if you can get a cheap($0.99-$3.13) handreg domain, it is worth a shot. -RedTape-

This is true but not many.

Just because you don't see any value in these names, someone else might. You, nor anyone, know the future, even when it's based on past behavior. -RedTape

This also is true but if not basing it on past behavior and present money investments, what wishing well do you use to have any accuracy.
I like my money and don't hunt with a shotgun. I use a rifle.
Surely you watch the drop lists. How many of those are going to be yours in 4 years. I can't think of better learning curve than to watch what others are doing wrong. And that cost me nothing but the time to watch. I don't plan on making the same mistakes. It has worked well for me in ten years but I will say that it took the first 4-5 to learn the best lessons.
Right now the investors buying all the LLL.coms are not wishing. They know and can shoot with a shotgun and make money. They are not buying all the JesusChristVR's.

Just remember this as the best wisdom I probably will say in this forum.

In a auction, the high bidder does not set the price. The sale price is set by the second highest bidder. To have value, it must have demand.

To many out-price themselves to alternatives and loose a sale completely.
And most of the time you never will know how many of those sales you lost before it started. Have value, yes, it is the amount that is in question.

You just throw out lots of hypothetical numbers that makes no sense to me, like :" There is not going to be more than a few hundred major players in this VR space over the next 5 years..".
-RedTape-

Perhaps EXPERIENCE will cure that. I have been in the VR space since the 90's and have all the dev kits and play with the media and have watched many a "next great thing" come and go.
I am not trying to offend anyone with their purchases. But pricing could be better for them. It's about obtaining a ROI. The majority of name purchases for investment normally show in the drop list in 4 years or less and many of those could have been sold to a individual for use in their blog etc if they were priced right. That is why folks get mad. A missed opportunity is a ROI never obtained.
I don't see all those dropped names selling again. Just a few.

The biggest investors do watch bido names and I as well. Yes they are low quality and the price reflects that. Back to what I said about demand and the number of bidders/price.

If you take the time to understand what happened in the smartphone name space, you will have a better understanding of this VR space and others.
