Pazu, In general I agree with you. I tried to Reg VREffects dot com but was taken. I rarely buy domains with hyphens, but the sheer number od searches for "VR Effects" made me take the plunge for $4.95.
Understandable, I have XReffects and VFXVR dot com. Maybe if you price in XXX someone will hit the BIN in the first year.
Disclaimer: I like Hyphens...there, I've said it...again lol. They have their place among us. Question: - Which looks better? vrreddstagggoesgolfing .com OR vr-reddstagg-goes-golfing .com Forget science and past performance and future expectations and whether Jupiter is in ascendance. Answer: - none of the above as I'd say the following looks better: - VR-Reddstagg-Goes-Golfing .com What we see and what we know are two different things and that is the crux of the matter. Two people can have different opinions. That's life. That's Domaining. Just out of interest I'd like to say that many of my domains with hyphens are getting as much traffic and in some cases more views than their equivalent non-hyphenated version. Only time will tell I guess and here's to a successful future for us all...whether that be real or virtual lol. Rgrds, Reddstagg
But namebio shows there's much more demand for VRdomains without Hyphens than with them. As a domainer that's what counts.
Agreed. You make a very valid point. Now go check some non-hyphenated domains that are currently for sale. How any zeros??? In the majority of my own domain names I have both versions so if I am ever fortunate to make a sale I can offer them as BOGOF or two for one if you like. Not everybody would agree, but I see this as a valid selling point. Worse case scenario is I sell the non-hyphenated version and I've 'wasted' $6 on the hyphenated version. Furthermore, I'd be more inclined to think what can happen in the future rather than always look back to the past and somehow try to justify that as some form of indicator for future performance. That would be like trying to accurately predict the price of Bitcoin. No one knows what the future may hold. I'll bide my time and wait it out. I'm listed at Efty and I am getting views on both versions of my 'VR' names. That is in no way trying to be predictive or using science, but I can only be directed by the facts. It could be the same person looking 25 times at each or it could be 25 different people. As a Domainer, it is also within our remit to look to the future and try and judge what ay or may not be successful and adjust or pivot our portfolios as appropriate. I can live with my choices and survive and I'm not too invested in any one particular niche or future technology. I have a diversified portfolio. I hope we can all succeed going into the future, whether we are selling domains with or without hyphens. Regards, Reddstagg
For sure, I have plenty without Hyphens waiting to be sold. I just see hypens as an added step for someone to have to type into a domain address. If it's marketed with the hyphen with a website, it might work OK. I do have a couple with a hyphen. One I was made an offer on and I should've accepted. Ended up dropping it later.
My thoughts on this are that, yes it could add some value to a sale of the non-hyphenated, in fact maybe a company who bought the regular domain may one day want the hyphenated. The main discouragements for me are that companies will opt for the hyphen primarily when they just want to pay handreg price and if those companies are successful they will eventually want to acquire the raw unfiltered .com. There is a far greater abundance of hyphenated names available for companies to choose from to handreg. Lastly it may take ten years of renewals to sell these domains, if at all. But as @Reddstagg said to each his or her own and I wish you luck. Since it seems Europe (Germany?) is a primary buyer of hyphenated you may be better with sedo landers on these, though I also use Efty.
It really doesnt matter if you/we like hyphens or what looks better...you have to think about the end-user likes, and I can assure you, they dont like hyphens, except German companies who are quite happy with a hyphen in a domain. You are better off getting a 3-word domain rather than a hyphenated 2-word name.
