Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

Just saw a TV commercial from an online casino. They are giving away free VR headsets to new members. The casino itself is not in VR though. I'm seein VR headsets popping up in multiple TV commercials lately, most of the producrs are not even related to VR. It's obvious VR is becoming part of public awareness fast.

Things are certainly moving fast right now. Any companies that don't have a presence in VR could soon find themselves left behind

So.....
If dot com is taken, which extension do you think would be the next best choice?
.net or a country code such as .ca?

I'm thinking it probably depends on the country code.... .ca is a strong extension as is.co.uk, so it might make more sense to register under those extensions than under .net... but I am wondering what everybody else thinks.

Thoughts?

Premium VR names will always have value in the main country codes, but I generally see VR websites as targeting global audiences.

As for alternatives to .com's, I guess it's the same downsides in VR as any other sector. Again, ultra premium .nets will always have value, but anything less than premium in a non-.com is a questionable investment IMO.

If you're really keen to invest in VR domains, I'd recommend buying up some aftermarket names instead.

I'm finding a lot of start-ups are going with .co if the .com is taken.

.io seems quite popular too.

Agreed. The threat of being left behind will be the fuel behind a lot of sales... It's possible that some buying end users may not even have immediate plans for VR but will secure names in their industry "just in case" or for defensive reasons, because a domain you own is a domain your competitors don't have.

With the Asian market being so hot for N, NN, NNN, NNNN etc. .com names....
Does anyone think a VR NNN .com will attract similar interest?
Perhaps it's a worthy investment?

I picked up a few but then had to stop myself so that I could ask you, my fellow domainers what your thoughts are.

I sometimes get carried away and swept up in it all so I'm kind of proud I was able to put on the brakes.... but maybe I should've kept the pedal to the metal in the VR NNN realm?!?!

.co.uk and .ca can do really well you are correct. But like someone else advised only go for top keywords if you are thinking of going for anything other than a .com

I own VR Poker (.net) and I don't think I have recieved even one offer on the domain lol.

Think most people have probably already gone the .co.uk and .ca route for premium keywords by now though.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input!! I agree that you want to try to stick to premium names.

I think VRpoker has phenomenal potential. You may have noticed that the "real money" gambling sites seem to all be.net's and the.com's are for the fun games/no money games.... I think you have a winner.

Hang on to it!!

most VR startups are definitely the garage kind of startup with quite limited funds.. same for the guys at IndustrialVR dot info who didn't want to shell out low 5 figures few months ago for my IndustrialVR dot com and went with the .info instead (besides registering a bulk of new gtlds such as IndustrialVR.technology, IndustrialVR.xyz and others)..

not my problem, it's only going to make my com even more valuable if they succeed with their business lol..

So I bit the bullet and picked up a few.ca's.

There's a few keywords that I didn't register just because I don't want to go to crazy but anyone else who is interested in investing in the dot CA's might want to type in some of their favourite words... they may be surprised at the availability

I used VR as a prefix to...
Art
Gallery
ArtGallery
Museum
Fly
Music

Interesting article here stating the VR will be a $120 billion business by 2020

You refer to the company as "they" when it could be some one man hobby venture run on the side of his day job. The site is unprofessional and half ass. If they're not willing to put effort into their website as a design company, presence then why would they care what domain their on?

i do actually know who "they" are.. just everyone is still so careful when venturing out into the VR industry/business, no matter who's behind the faces & names..

If this will happen, it will sure be HUGE for VR and if done properly will be lifechanging:
Google’s Improbable Deal to Recreate the Real World in VR
Can you imagine basically a 2nd world where you have your own avatar based on your real life caracteristics where you can do anything, but with real life effects? THIS is why I've invested in VR ladies and gentleman! hopefully we'll see this coming to live soon, with this I mean within 10 years.

Ohh...yhea, and that:

I was about to say "VRArt/ca is mine!", but then I realized I let it drop... xP. lol. Good luck with that one. I certainly regret dropping it.

Something I've noticed with .ca, and other cctld's, is that they work best for physical products and services. So, for companies and individuals that provide VR tours, sell VR headsets, or produce VR content, they're awesome. However, for companies and individuals that would like to provide services over the web, like a VR Video site, VR app store, or WebVR-type apps, they're not so great. I'd also be weary of brandables (with the exception of top notch stuff). EMD's are the way to go, IMO.

Cheers. :)

Exactly. When you consider how even buying a low $XX,XXX domain is peanuts to some of these companies, from their point of view, if there's even a tiny chance they might need it in the future, or one of their competitors might, it makes sense to invest.

Buy now, ask questions later :xf.wink:
