Value of Domain Hacks

Here's my question..what is the value of domain hack? I've seen some good domain hack and i was wondering about the value of it. I myself own one and i'm not sure whether or not i should get more. I haven't seen any sale of domain hack. Why do we register domain hack? Is it because the domain looks cool or because there's a potential end user who's willing to buy such domain?

Here are two of my domain hacks:

MES.SI (for Leo Messi)
ASSI.SI (for a well known tourist town and community Assisi - you probably think also on St Assisi and Assisi wine...)

I think 2 years ago pep.si was sold for $10k (according to Slovenian media...)

Not sure about Assisi, but Messi may have some potential. The only thread is trademark issue but I still haven't got any answer about hacked domain trademarks

I was contacted directly via phone.

Most of my $x,xxx - $xx,xxx sales came from phone call either by a broker or co-owner of the company.

And last question on this: do you have phone in domain whois info or on the landing page itself?

If there would be a trademark in question, then PEPSI would not buy domain pep.si (for 10k) - they would claim/demand it :=)
So I think, here is your answer - there is no trademark in question with MES.SI.

I know that Pep.si case, but times tend to change and what was not trademark issue may become it

I personally hold several "brand" hacks so this issue is critical to me too

I used to own 3 brand hacks... I sold one (the more generic one, very borderline) and dropped the other 2.. as soon as you pick up a domain for the purpose of reselling it some day to the TM owner it's bad faith no matter how you look at it and no matter if it's a hack or not... agreed that the TM owner will have a hard time proving it, if you're smart enough to disguise the purpose of your registration with a unrelated landing page for example, not a game I want to play though.. whoever sold pep.si - congrats..

But... what if name offered to some company is also just a keyword? For example, if there is a brand called Urge and I write them with an offer of Ur(dot)ge, is it trademark issue?

If the TM is URGE then yes...

That's another problem with hoarding brand hacks, you can't go into active marketing LOL - you need to wait for them to contact you and trust me most will never bother to get in touch...

BTW, as you mentioned geodomain hack, what is preferable - English/internationally accepted name hack (like Swed.en) or domestic one (like Sveri.ge)?
