Whats the deal with domain hacks?

I have been seeing quite a few hacks and I also have a few in my cart, just debating on whether or not to pull the trigger. Do hacks have any value? Does it depend on the extension or on the name itself. How is the resale of hacks and also how does one get traffic from a domain hack.

Lets say I own "CreditCa.rd", would i get any traffic with that name. Do search engines bypass the ccTLD and only recognize Credit Card? Im just curious because I wouldnt understand buying a domain hack if there was no potential value. Basically what is the point of a domain hack. Thanks ahead.

Some are just good, some are no good, and some are only good because of branding. I'm not too sure about the SEO, it would be cool to have your whole domain highlighted in adwords for example. Really, it should be a nice keyword that works perfectly, preferably in a low cost extension.

Thanks peaches. I think I might have come across some "good" hacks. Is there a market for hacks or do you just have to get lucky.

hacks just look cool because it's like a word/phrase without an extension.
