I saw that there's really some good .US names open to register. Anybody an advise or opinion if US domains are worth registering and if there's any future in them?
At dnjournal I saw only one US name listed as a top sale (party.us at $6000) further I see here US domains offered but not at top prices nice names seem all to go away for less than $100 .

I'm not sure .us has caught on yet.. but I eventually see it as replacing .net in alot of situations.. not mention it's more appropriate in alot of situations. I think if you can afford it and the domains are a good fit, .us is ripe for speculation, tho I'd still take .com over .us in most situautions ATM.

Remember, good keywords are good keywords.. the ext doesn't matter quite so much if the keyword is high value.

I agree the real key will be,WIll Companies who cannot afford to buy the .com or if it is unavailable because another company using, will they migrate to .us if so then the ext could move up. Full disclosure I own only two names and 8 LLL. I do like .us that is Just my opinion.

I believe that .us will eventually catch up to .com, at least for companies operating solely within the US. This is because while a generic .com implies an international service, .us accurately defines the target market.

In Sweden, .com used to be the favored tld when .se was tightly regulated. But when .se relaxed its rules, its citizens flocked to their own cctld. The same could happen to .us, specially considering how Americans can be very patriotic.

Or for specific regionally targeted domains, I agree (community ws, etc.).

one thing to ponder.. is..
how "widely recognized" the .co.uk extension is..
it's a country specific extension. The uk love their extension.. and it's very popular.

I believe as "patriotic" as American's are.. that in time, you'll find the .us to be just as popular in the us, as the .co.uk is in the uk.

I love .us and I believe in this extension, and I buy many .us names.

I can see why us citizens & business owners would want to become a www.BusinessOwner.us

"-) had to throw that in!

Thank you all for your comments :)

2 other questions
1. Is there a stats list of numbers of US domains in time. When I look at http://www.whois.sc/internet-statistics/ I see there are 890,556 that's a little bit dissappointing especially because I read somewhere there are when about 8.000.000 .DE domains active. Curious how much it where a year ago.
2. Are there US droplists available? Can't find any info on them.

I think I read somewhere recently that .de is the second largest market next to .com... I'll have to see if I can find the link (maybe dnjournal?)...

I wouldn't doubt it. .de is very popular.

.us is good for US based buisnesses. a domain like praiseallah.us won't do to well.

I believe that .us is a real sleeper and a potential monster in the years to come. Considering the relative youth of the internet, and that .com and .net have been the dominant extensions in that short time, there is plenty of potential for .us, as it is really only now 3.5 years old.

Americans are a patriotic bunch indeed and when knowledge and use of this extension become more mainstream, I'd sure want to be holding on to a few .us's at that point!

Long live .us!

My top 3 extensions for speculation are: .com, .us, and .info... I wish I could speculate in .ca as well if they'd open up the domain.

I must say .com is still the king of domain names now,and I believe also other ccTLD will become more and more strongly,.com is still the king in the future.
But,.net have lost his value now as what I have said in my old post:
http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=46070
Only few company want to use .net for their business,in fact, they like to pick a ccTLD for their business.

.US is a child now,you cann't let a child to fight with a adult(.de,.co.uk and .com),but when .us become to an adult, they can fight with old man(.net....).

So I believe invest .us is a good choice. And I agree ccTLD is very good for local market.

Global reach. Local touch.

Local touch. Local comfort.

.US is in need of it's first heavy hitter. If one large, well known company takes the plunge, and the site is widely publicized, others will follow, and .US will grow up in a hurry. When that happens, I'll buy the first round.

Widely publicized, and preferrably w/o another countrie's name as part of the base term.
