Any value left in .US?

After keeping many .US domains since 2004, I am left without many sales and a now staggering renewal bill ($20 each). I tried the GoDaddy codes listed here at NP to knock down the price some, but the GD reseller (formerly RegisterMate now Domains Priced Right) will not accept any of the codes here. I even tried emailing and calling Domains Priced Right (that is a joke) to lower the bill.

That said, are .US domains worth these now large renewal fees? Personally, I have sold less .Info and .US than anything else. I will be moving my non expired domains out of Domains Priced Right, but I still need to decide if the ones that are expired and can't be moved are worth renewing. I have several 3 letter .US and others that are keywords. Does anybody have any insight or advise that could help dealing with this?

It really depends on the quality of names you have. There is a market for top quality .US domains.

I have sold several for Mid $X,XXX+ range this year, mainly to end users.

As far as paying $20 renewals, that is ridiculous. Transfer the domains to another registrar that charges normal renewal fees ($8 range).

Since you're at GD already, you could always get the Discount Domain Club, and just pay $7.29 for .us renewals.

Sold StockQuote.us for $99 no reserve auction.

And yesterday Lovely.us no reserve auction finished with no bids.

Not bad names are they?

I have another bunch of quality .us that I will be dumping off as they come up for renewal.

Strangely enough one of my first ever sales back in 2002 was Latex.us around $700 I think, encouraged me to buy some more-my mistake! They have only cost me money since.

Hey Asif,

First off Welcome to NamePros!

If you look on each line of each sale...The very last word is the Sales Venue...(Sedo, Afternic, etc.)

Just read a LOT here before going nuts buying all types of domains.

Take my advice...I did just that when I started out and it was NOT GOOD!

$20?

Transfer those to namecheap, $6.99 for a .us

With regard to the names, if they are solid, keyword or premium, such as LLL, etc; you should try to renew and keep them. Dot US definitely has a market that will continue to grow, especially for the more premium names. Given the fact that even Americans have yet to truly embrace it's own ccTLD, sooner or later it will gain momentum, even if it is first by foreign entities wanting a global presence in the US.
:imho:

That aside, if you are with GoDaddy or [GoDaddy Reseller], there are some 31% Off Codes that should lower the price for US Renewals from 19.99 to 13.79 (a savings of 6.20 for each name). However, you want to ensure you only renew in groups of 5 or less names. Otherwise, bulk renewal automatically kicks in and renders most codes inactive.

In reading your post it appears you may have already tried this, but seems worth it to double check in case you were renewing in bulk. Try the following codes listed below, [which were originally posted by another member in the GD discount code thread]. For starters, try renewing only 4 names at once, for example, and see if the codes provide the discount. I just tested them on a single dot US Renewal and they worked like a charm. With any luck they will help you as well. However, if not, please pardon the post.

gdz532a 31% off
gdz666a 31% off

Thanks for the responses:). Still trying the codes above with only a domain or two, but nothing works. Unfortunately, I will have to renew the best names of the ones that have expired at $20.

I will move all others out of Domains Priced Right ASAP.

You should still be able to move expired names. Dynadot is very efficient (as is GD). You can get it done in a couple of hours, really.

I have made money with .us (a few nice sales) but it is a tough market. Today I would not recommend investing in .us. After years of stagnation I do not anticipate growth in the near future.
Each market is different. ccTLDs are thriving but not everywhere. The US market has its own peculiarities.
Keep the very best and focus on quality. The weaker the TLD, the more important it is to follow that rule.
Of course you need to stop paying $20/year, that's daylight robbery (one more reason why GD is not that cheap).

Renewels at GD are $3.49 until June 30th

Where do you see that at? Just tried and I get the $7.29 (Discount Club price)

As far as .us and sales, they're doing fine for me. Not running out into the street and doing cartwheels type of sales but very profitable, many multiples of what I'm paying for them. And the people buying them are getting good deals. Premium keywords or generics that you can actually build a site around etc.

If you google .us coupon or something similar, and check the various sites that come up for dot us codes, you may have better luck. Try the following codes to see if any of them help. If nothing else, go for the Hail Mary pass in the endzone and try DOWNFORCE, which offers 15% off. Along with cockroaches, it will be one of the few things left when the world ends.

gdbbc805 (saves $4 per name)
gdbba46 (saves 25% off $75 or more)
cjcchp75 (saves 15% off $75 or more)
cjccab75 (saves 15% off $75 or more)
gdbbren8 (saves $2 per name)
gdbb776 (saves $2 per name)
DOWNFORCE (saves $3 per name - 15%)

Hmmm, I wish I could move those expired names to Godaddy instead of the Godaddy reseller I got stuck with. That would probably solve the problem. Is that possible? I always thought the domains were stuck at that Registrar once they expired.

He must have meant registrations at gd are that price, definitely not renewals!

Was this false or does anybody else see .us renewals at GD for $3.49?

I received an email from GD quoting this renewal price as well. I put 2 domains in my cart for renewal and the price was sky high. Appears to be false from what I can see.

Thanks. Tried myself and couldn't get it to go and looked around for codes, didn't see anything or I would be all over this.
