.us .US domainnames is it good business?

I saw that there's really some good .US names open to register. Anybody an advise or opinion if US domains are worth registering and if there's any future in them?
At dnjournal I saw only one US name listed as a top sale (party.us at $6000) further I see here US domains offered but not at top prices nice names seem all to go away for less than $100 .

United.US, UnitedAirlines.US, AmericanAirlines.US, Chevrolet.US, Starbucks.US, Viagara.US, work for me. What's wrong w/ these cos marketing/advertising depts, anyways? They are all plainly insensitive to the needs of those holding kick-ass .US domain names, IMHO.

Also, remember that US companies had a slight lead on the internet with .com since the internet was essentially started here. Also, .de had a several year head start on .us as an open TLD.

Until just about 2 years ago, .us was strictly geographic based and the best you could hope to get was something like myname.cincinnati.ci.oh.us. And that is IF you could actually find the delegation manager for your city or county to register. Many cities, states, and counties still use thie heirarchy.

One reason you don't see .us more popular is that Americans still prefer .com and think of it as the default. Another reason is that the Nexus requirement does require US nexus and US based domain servers, keeping many foreign investors out (although many register them anyway).

Today, I was inspired to renew three of my .US names for 7 years more because of this thread. .US keeps looking better and better by the months :D

And .CN also seems to be looking better and better as the Beijing 2008 Olympic draws closer. China is geared towards becoming the world's largest single nation of deprived consumers the marketing world has ever taken note of. China wants to reach out. Foreigners want to come in, hint hint.

Geotargeted tlds are making more and more sense as momentum reels in. Don't believe me, ask Google. Singularly, they probably have the world's largest collection of activated cctlds the online world has ever known :D

A recent report, that I overheard on a news channel, projected that China will have the world's largest economy in 15 years.

In the early 70's, while drifting through the eastern hemisphere, this American boy, (who's main exposure to anything Chinese up to that point, had been sad interpretations of chop suey and chow mein), was quite shocked upon seeing his first "mainland" Chinese product. It was a bottle of beer, sitting in a London cooler, with a big red star on the label. After a brief moment of soul searching, I purchased the bottle and made quick work of it. You can imagine my delight when I found the flavor of the beer to be quite good and after realizing I was not going to get dysentary from it. :hehe:

My, my, how times have changed, and how they will continue to change. I don't know the language, or the ropes so I have rights to only one .cn name: Reference.cn, which I thought might be useful, somewhere downstream, for the English speaking. But, judging by how quickly American cos and consumers have embraced .us, I might have to wait another 30 years for it to get noticed, at least, here, in the US.

At a bludy $25 bucks a pop, these .CN prices better change grr.. it's costing me a fortune doing the 5 year max renewals on them.
