US death toll in Iraq reaches 2,500

The number of US troops killed in Iraq has reached 2,500 with the death of a marine, the Pentagon has announced.

Also there have been 226 non-US soldier casualties, bringing the total death toll of Coalition soldiers to 2,726 - not to mention Iraqi civilians.

Please do not turn this into an anti-war thread. It is here ONLY for us to acknowledge the memories of the fallen soldiers (and civilians)

Whenever I meet a Vietnam vet I always shake his hand and thank him for his selfless service to his country. I will definitely be doing the same thing when I finally meet a soldier from Iraq or Afganistan. I would salute them as well... the only reason I don't is that I may make them uncomfortable by doing such a thing in public.

I have the utmost respect for people who fight for our country and serve to protect us. God bless and give peace to those among us that have to endure the loss of a beloved family member.
