"We need to think about what we can do to protect them and what we can do, eventually, to bring them home with the honor they deserve," said Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat.

"The enormity of this loss of 2,000 of our best and greatest breaks America's heart," said Sen. Dick Durbin, the Democratic whip from Illinois.

He called for America's leaders to redouble their efforts to find a way to end the war.

"We owe our fallen soldiers and their families answers; we owe them accountability," he said. "We can't allow our nation to drift into a war without end in Iraq."

With more than 150,000 troops still in harm's way in Iraq, Durbin said "the choice we face in Iraq is not a choice between resolve and retreat.

The men and women in our military and their loved ones deserve a clear path to stability in Iraq."

He added, "We do not honor our fallen soldiers simply by adding to their numbers."

The death toll is far higher than the 382 U.S. troops who died in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, but lower than the toll from many previous conflicts.

Please check your figures on that...

CompuXP, you left out many other pictures.... including those of torture in American prisons...

Now don't get me wrong, I think it's good that Saddam is out. However, not at the loss of 100k innocent lives...

Colin, go check your figures on all the facts YOU support and provide solid proof of it :)

Also - I'm not saying all Americans are perfect. Who does wrong is punished appropriately, which is half the reason we went into Iraq...

But really, back at 2nd grade math: 100,000 < X,000,000 lives

Those figures are to quote BBC news television. I'm not sure how you came to the figure of millions, as the most grossly exaggerated figure I have seen is 500k during Saddams reign.....

It's not like I'm going to change your mind. You are both Bush supporters and are therefore have been taken up by too much Republican propoganda... anything that Bush says either needs to be laughed at or totally ignored....

Oooooo --- BBC news TV. Of course! The media NEVER distorts anything so they can get more money :)

Sorry but republican propoganda does not exist :D

Also - you just contradicted yourself (a common trait among democrats.) You say that anything Pres. Bush says should be "totally ignored" - then how come you liberals criticize everything he says? If you don't like him, then IGNORE HIM - he's only our President. .... </sarcasm>

What you need to do is rethink your logic because it's VERY twisted!

LOL, that is possibly the most twisted logic I have ever heard!

BBC news? Get more money? Perhaps if you knew anything about the UK, you would know that it is an independant organisation funded by TV license, and not by ads.... so distorting doesn't even come into it as they don't rely on viewing figures.

Hmmm... obviously SOMEBODY's mind is not evolved enough to handle the easy logic of my thinking against your statement :)

Really, though, the point here is that we're in Iraq for a reason - war has gone on since the beginning of multiple civilizations. There's nothing we can do to stop it so I suggest we stop complaining and start looking at all the positives of this war.

I have go do some chores now and feed the animals. I'll be back in a while.

Hey, no need to turn to personal insults, it's just a discussion... hehe

So your excuse for the war is that it's been going on since "civilisation" began, so it's ok to go and kill a tonne of people now?
Now that we've done it, we should just forget about it? Howabout the the Republicans getting edgy and calling for a withdrawal from Iraq?

Ah, no personal insults. I said SOMEBODY's.

I'm not saying WE ALL should forget about it - I mean we should just not lose our cool or argue over this - it's not going to change anything.

And I bet your willing to accept European Euros......... Your point is invalid there...

I get a horrible feeling that the US and the UK is going to pull out of Iraq and leave them in Limbo....

If NamePros used Euros I wouldnt be here.

Only way the USA will pull out is if the Wimps... errr Demos get control.

Do you guys remember that they ran a couple planes into the 2 largest buildings in New York City? (I think they were at least.) What about attacking our national defense with the Pentagon? Oh yeah - about 4,000 died in less than 8 hours that day. This took about 2 and a half years ;)

Neither of these events have anything to do with Iraq.

Bush has failed on his wars already. He proclaimed they must go into Afghanastan to get 'Bin Laden, 3 years later and Osama is still roaming freely through the country side. Bush claimed that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. Another lie.

P.S. The BBC is probably one of the most respected news casts.

You guys will never learn lol ..... This is a Domain Forum Still ! Not a political Soap Box .... You take a thread posted to remember the lost troops and turn it into some silly Crap as usual.

We are the world
There comes a time
When we head a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on
Pretneding day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of
God's great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

[Chorus]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Send them your heart
So they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stone to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand

[Chorus]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

When you're down and out
There seems no hope at all
But if you just believe
There's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change will only come
When we stand together as one

[Chorus]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Now everyone take hands for a Rousing Rendition of "Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya" :yell:

I just couldn't read this without responding. The "THEY" that flew the planes in the WTC....there were 19 of them...15 of them were SAUDI ARABIAN NATIONALS. They trained at camps in AFGHANASTAN. Those are INDISPUTABLE FACTS.

Attacking Iraq because of that is the equivilant of us bombing Mexico after Pearl harbor.

Saddam Hussein had terrorist connections - and you know it! We have found inexplicable evidence of his weapons, and do you remember that he was MASS MURDERING his OWN PEOPLE?
