"The enormity of this loss of 2,000 of our best and greatest breaks America's heart," said Sen. Dick Durbin, the Democratic whip from Illinois.

He called for America's leaders to redouble their efforts to find a way to end the war.

"We owe our fallen soldiers and their families answers; we owe them accountability," he said. "We can't allow our nation to drift into a war without end in Iraq."

With more than 150,000 troops still in harm's way in Iraq, Durbin said "the choice we face in Iraq is not a choice between resolve and retreat.

The men and women in our military and their loved ones deserve a clear path to stability in Iraq."

He added, "We do not honor our fallen soldiers simply by adding to their numbers."

The death toll is far higher than the 382 U.S. troops who died in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, but lower than the toll from many previous conflicts.

The 9/11 Commission issued a staff report more than a year ago saying "so far we have no credible evidence that Iraq and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States." It said Osama bin Laden made a request in 1994 to establish training camps in Iraq, but "but Iraq apparently never responded." That was before bin Laden was ejected from Sudan and moved his operation to Afghanistan.

The US constitution was created to give many people the most freedom they'll ever have. Would you rather live in the USA or Iraq (Don't answer niether now!) - get murdered by your leader or start your own business and protest the war without getting even arrested? Don't you SEE? It's our job to make sure the world is peaceful now - especially since they attacked us, we need to defend ourselves.

The Iraqi people are HAPPY that we went into their country - they are now free and will be free for a LONG time! We can't pull out yet, though, until order is restored to the country - otherwise all our efforts would be for nothing.

Honestly, though, I don't see how Bush is doing this for his own gain - especially for oil. Realistically, if he went to go get oil, then prices would be going DOWN, not UP.

At the runup to the war there were inspectors with boots on the ground as well as British intel refuting CIA evidence of WMDs, those were the WMDs that he killed his own people with, were being the operative word.

Yes I saw the pictures, I am very happy progress has been made. Is it worth 200 BIllion plus, the deaths of 2000 soldiers, thousands of iraqi citizens, neglect of our own citizens during catastrophes, and rebuilding a nation? It will be years before we know.

He was smuggling them through his country to others, giving them supplies and resources - darn if it wasn't 11 PM right now I'd go find some articles on this... But really - this is pretty ridiculous. So, via proxy, you could say Iraq DID attack us - or at least assisted those that did attack us.

And in response to the Oil question, it goes far, far further than money. The US relies on oil far more than any other nation, it would be political suicide for prices to get any higher, by invading Iraq, Bush ensured that the USA would have a steady stream of cheap Oil....therefore ensuring that he would remain popular.
