Ditto!

Let the reg'n begin.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry...
Step right up ,folks.
Dont get lost in the shuffle, dont be slow, dont miss out... Hurry, hurry, hurry...
Protect your brand, buy now before someone gets your valuable name....Hurry, hurry, hurry...
You know you want it, you know you need it, you cant live without it...
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... ad nauseum."

ok, honestly...
Best of luck to all of them.
These will never affect the C-N-O, imo.
It's all about making a living, so more power to 'em.

Peace,
Cy

I can see from that list:

.ADULT
.PORN
.SEX

Which means, those who purchased domains under .XXX are all screwed.

ICM, which runs the .xxx registry, applied for those.

"Under ICM's proposal to ICANN, anybody owning a .xxx domain name by a certain cut-off date will have the matching .porn, .sex and .adult address automatically reserved."

Now THAT is not only getting screwed, but also getting shafted.

So you pay for 1 domain under .XXX, and now you are being pressured to pay for an additional 3 more identical domains in 3 different extensions that the same registry has created ??? haha

Some interesting opinionated reading on the new gtld's I ran across.

While many travel businesses may see this as a fresh opportunity to purchase some of the keyword domains they missed out on last time round, the fact is that new TLDs ultimately won’t have an effect on the price structure of the secondary domain market at all.

Before explaining why, let me start with an apt analogy which Thies Lindenthal, creator of the IDNX domain index and a domain pricing specialist at Sedo, recently put forward in his Scientific American article:

“On April 22nd, 1889, large areas of what is now Oklahoma were officially opened up for homestead settlement. At high noon, thousands of pioneers raced from the territory’s borders into pristine land, claiming lots on a first come, first serve basis.

“Within hours, first cities emerged around railroad stations or at other well-connected spots, quickly establishing local governments, basic infrastructure and property rights. Despite opposing laws, land claims were directly sold off in secondary markets.

“But even then, Manhattan had already been settled much earlier, and land prices in Manhattan were, and still are today, more than hundredfold the prices of Oklahoma’s rural areas.”

For example, the introduction of a number of new gTLDs in 2001 (.aero, .biz, .coop, .info, .museum, .name, and .pro) highlights how some extensions flourish, while others do not. I would imagine many people in the travel industry didn’t even realise that TLDs like .aero and .museum had launched in the first place.

In fact, even the better known domain extensions such as .info and .biz have less than 10% of the market compared to .com names, and the value of a .info is on average only 13% of the value of the respective .com domain (as shown at IDNX.com).

I find it troublesome that generic words can be awarded as gTLDs.

I totally understand why a company might want to protect its trademark, but generic terms (music, bank, and, yes, apple) should be hands off.

No one corporation should be able to corner the market on everyday words.

This may have unwanted consequences that will go beyond domainers regging a bunch of junk, but very well may set the legal system on its ear with bogus lawsuits against anyone using a generic word, especially if USPTO allows .anything to be trademarked.

Just something to think about.

I have always liked the idea of having .web

This crap is getting out of hand though.

Still type-in goes to .com or may be to ccTLD.
People hardly know other than .com,.net,.org or ccTLD in some countries.

I like .art, .eco, .ngo and .nyc.
And of course .sic, because the Székely people need their own domain extension :)

Lots of keyword TLD's here, it will be interesting to see how they will rank with search engines and how users will adopt to this new environment.

Will direct navigation be diverted form .com's eg. users type house(dot)music instead of housemusic(dot)com ?

Where did you get this list from? What source?

Where did you get this list from? What source?
Multiple sources: Icann, different Registrars, and a few Domain News sites. Its an "UNofficial" list as stated, so the extensions will more than likely still change a bit in the final stages for 2013 release. The list is meant to stimulate some debate about the new gtld's, which it seems to have started to do :)

In an eagerly anticipated confirmation from the domain world and tech community, ICANN has now officially announced that at a special news conference to be held on the original target date of June 13th 2012, they will finally unveil the gTLD applicants and strings.

Source Article: http://www.domainnamenews.com/new-g...ill-finally-be-unveiled-on-june-13-2012/11130

---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 PM ----------

How icann processes the new gtld applications:

The New gTLD Program is unique in its global scope and its mission to open the domain name space to competition and choice. ICANN plans for rigorous evaluation of multiple criteria regardless of how many applications will be received. In addition, ICANN is committed to measured delegation rates so that any impacts on root zone operations can be easily monitored. This creates an unusual problem because there is no upper limit on the number of applications that can be received. To solve that issue, ICANN has built the New gTLD Program so that approximately 500 applications will be evaluated at a time. If significantly more than that are received, a plan is devised to divide the applications into sets of roughly 500. This is often referred to as the "batching process."

If batching is required, a secondary timestamp process will be employed to establish the batches. (Batching priority will not be given to an application based on the time at which the application was submitted to ICANN, nor will batching priority be established based on a random selection method.) The secondary timestamp process will require applicants to obtain a time-stamp through a designated process which will occur after the close of the application submission period.

That list makes me sad.
Now which one should a user remember, the keyword or the gTLD?

Seeing that list on one page just confirms what an unmitigated mess it's going to create, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

More helpful info about the reveal day that may benefit companies worried about legal matters and potential UDRP's.
Reveal Day presents an early opportunity for businesses to identify potential benefits and risks associated with the various proposed applications, and all companies should be actively planning to review the gTLD list upon publication to determine whether they should comment on, object to, or register second-level domains in one or more of the various new gTLDs. Given the large number of applications in the pipeline, companies should review the published list methodically and with several key issues in mind.

...older people yes. The coming generations will see these names as even with all the other extensions thru time...

Cyberspace2 for the 21st and 22nd centuries, I guess...

Time marches on...
