Type in trafiic

I have been reading ricks blog the last couple of days where he looks back to advice he has handed out over the years. I wanted to know from people that have decent .coms if the type of type in traffic he talks about in 2007 is still happening today. To give you an idea he estimates that hotels.com (without branding) would have got 25,000 visitors directly a day, do you think that the same amount of people still type in as opposed to using a search engine or do you think numbers would be lower and if so by how much %.

Probably be lower with all the search engine and rise of social networking and stuff like that. It defintely would be no better.
