Hi,

Today I purchased TV.mobi for 5K at SEDO.

The story:

Few days ago I made an offer to someone having TV.mobi for sale at SEDO.
Today I received an email from SEDO saying the owner of TV.mobi did a counter offer. I logged into my account and for sure accepted his 5K sale price.

What a great deal:
A domain that should worth +250K just purchased 5K!!!

I have to admit I was very excited.
I faxed imediately my bank to wire SEDO.

Once done, I thought:
Who is this morron who sold me this domain so cheap, it's incredible?

So I performed a WHOIS, and what surprise:
Domain available for registration, oops !!??

I tried from different whois services and the same, including the official one at the dot Mobi registry.
So I tried to deposit the name from Moniker and for sure I got the domain cannot be registered.

Strange, strange, ... what is happening??

So I contacted both, SEDO and the Mobi registry.
The Mobi registry quickly responded me that it was impossible to register TV.mobi now and in the future, simply because the deal they have with ICANN do not let them sell 2 letters domains.

Grrr...

Few minutes after I got a mail from SEDO canceling this sale and apologizing.
But they did not told me anything else on what exactly happend.

So I do not know if this was a SCAM or that SEDO did not verify the domain listed for sale, ... I do not know.

The lesson:
Allways check the domain you are going to buy is registered.

Fortunately I called the bank and was able to cancel the wire.
For one time SEDO has been fast to respond: Thanks!

The conclusion:

I do not blame SEDO, at the inverse, due to their mistake of not controling the domain for sale in fact I had a pair of hours of great excitation and hapiness this afternoon.
Imagine, for 2 hours I thought having earned 250K without do anything!!!

LOL!! Yea, that would have been sweet! I tried for lots of LL in the landrush just hoping for a registry mistake. No such luck. Hopefully the seller of TV.mobi has been banned from Sedo. Total scam. It would be nice if Sedo verified ownership before listing or at least before asking the buyer for funds.

I knew it was too good to be true (2 letter .mobi) and yet, I was excited reading it. :)

LOL
Doesn't everyone know you can't reg LL.mobi?
Sedo is annoying when you bid & pay for a generic com & then find they don't own, had it before.
You can't buy LL.info or .biz either LOL B-)

Domain verification by Sedo leaves to desire.
And since Sedo is doing the escrow I don't understand why people waste their time listing bogus offers like that.

Also, Cybertonic is right: always do a whois before making an offer. Some domains listed at Sedo are actually free as they have been dropped by their owners ;)
