Travel.agency has to be one of the most relevant new gTLDs and therefore one would expect it to be one of the most valuable. It has 110,000 exact match searches per month on Google.
The question is what would the name now sell for?
Iโ€™m going to estimates in today's market it will sell for $7000
I think the downside of this name is that travel agencies use brands and not keywords. Keywords have lost favour over the last few years due to Google's change in the search algorithm.
Interested to see what other members think it will sell for and why and seeing who is the closet.
Also think it will be sold to a domainer and not to an end-user. And at $7000 I think there will be little upside when trying to remarket it to an end user.

2021 thats precise. I dont think it will get 40k in my life time

shit, I wouldn't be surprised if that name gets 40k right on Flippa in 4 weeks from now.

It doesnt get much better, so I feel it will give us a good indication of the state of the sector

A $500 renewal is typically ridiculous but for such a category killer term it's certainly worth it. If I were a travel agent and bought it to build out I would renew it out 10 years right off the bat and forget about it. If prices go up, covered.

I also like RainDrop.com better though. Not necessarily for travel but for anything.

so right when the registries have no restriction on price increases as per ICANN policy - unlike .com

That's what I wanted to know.
And also why sell now, Ali Zandi is a respected domainer with a proven track record and on the face of it seems his sentiment for the new gTLDs is negative to be selling now on Flippa which is likely to get wholesale value rather than outbound marketing to get an end user price.

You think the last 8 months he *hasn't* been trying to sell it?

It's not quite as open ended as you imply with respect to price increases.
There's an evergreen contract that includes price controls in .com? Nice to know!?

He said there has not been much outbound history on it - so yes but small.

Hi Du I see there are strict controls on .com price increases over the next 6 years but I read the ICANN new gTLDs policy/contract in detail and there was no price controls. Have I got that wrong?

Separate discussion but 6 years starting in 2012. What happens in 2018 is anyone's guess. People can be fairly confident prices will stay lower because the big $$ names are already out and there's no need for huge price increase due to volume of renewals. The gtld changed things (like .co and .me and late ccTLDs) because there was premium registration opportunity. In my opinion its unlikely that a new dot would change pricing from reasonable to much higher. They *could* but it would be marketing suicide as the price increase has to be unilateral and not targeted.

Anyway - that's a different thread :) This is Travel.Agency which is an ok name but already overpriced imho.

Why do people not hold a name even for 1 year after purchase?

I didn't think this thread would stay on track, they always derail //. I'm not sure if the OP's intension was really to get an opinion of what this great domain, IMO would sell for, or rather carry on with anti gTLD comments.

I wouldn't mind a thread like this if it was my auction, it's extra promotion, free. But when it could become damaging towards the outcome of this auction then personally I'd request it to be completely removed but again JMO. ;)

Mad409 welcome. Why don't you put it back on track and give your opinion.
The renewal fee was a legitimate point and we agreed unlikely to raise greatly and if worried lock it in for 10 years, it has a bearing on value. So let's leave that and get your thoughts on the name and what you think it will sell for You watch this sector closely be good to hear your thoughts.

it's bizzare that some people are forecasting prices for 2021, the effect of ta is immediate in google rankings...

In 5 - 6 years TRAVEL.agency will be a 6 figures domain !!!
Sorry, it is already a 6 figures domain name. Majority just donยดt realize it, yet ...
New gTLDs like TRAVEL.agency are pure GEMS !

Why would anyone sell their domain on Flippa unless they are desperate for cash?
I assume Ali Zandi has a lot of contacts?
Why settle for a (crappy) reseller marketplace?

It's not a lot as an operating expense, but the prevailing mentality is that a domain name should not cost more than $10. People don't even want to hear your explanations as to why this name is so expensive. Otherwise .tv domains would have sold more if you think about it.
If the potential buyer can be assured that the price will never be raised more than current inflation rate +3% then there is peace of mind, but there is no such guarantee here.

Desperation makes people do stupid things. At some point they no longer care about their reputation :( Especially if they know they are the end of the journey.
And we have already witnessed clawbacks and price revisions due to the fact that the names were 'incorrectly' priced at inception etc.
