I'm trying to transfer a domain from ipower to godaddy but they refuse to remove the whois protection and thus the transfer of the domain. They have stopped answering support requests and the customer service idiot said he couldn't help me.

Has anyone had any luck getting a domain away from the regfly like ipower?

I'm steamed as I've been trying for two weeks already and the domain expires in three more. I knew it would be a headache, but not like this!

If you are trying to move it to Godaddy you may want to give them a call on their support phone line. I have found them to be helpful in the past and may be able to advise you. Possibly not.

I succeded move some domains out of ipower few months ago.
After you transfer the domains, don't forget to tell ipower about this, otherwise they will automatically charge you renewal for those domains :(

I moved the domains out of ipower in 5 days, after that I was talking and writting to support for more than 1 month to get my money back.

LE: don't you have the credentials to tucows domain control? You can disable whois protection from there.

Whitebark:

Try this:

Go to https://manage.opensrs.net/

Input the domain name, the user name ( which is the first 8 letters of the domain) and the password.

Once inside, make sure the domain is unlocked. Then get the auth code from (I believe it is) Domain Extras tab.

Once that's done, I believe you'll have no problems effecting the transfer. It'll take a few days because IPower = molasses.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone - I do have access to the control panel but whenever I try to remove the whois protection it doesn't. It stays on, and that's where I'm stuck. They refuse to help me past that point.

Gladly, they don't have my credit card information as I bought the domain from someone else.

if the domain was worthless I'd just let it expire there, but sadly, it's a few hundred dollar LLLL.com.

When in doubt make sure you let the terrible registrar know that you are contacting (CC) ICANN. Within two hours of doing this domain auth code appeared and whois protection has been removed.

Lesson learned - avoid ipowerweb inc at all costs. :)
