iPower charges my CC for names no longer with them

How does a registrar get away with charging a client for a domain renewal when the domain is no longer with them?

I transfered the name away from iPower, where I originally registered it, and they managed to never delete it from their software. Fortunately, the CC on file was old so the charge got rejected, but that is just scary that they do not have their business in order.
