Transferring an expiring domain from Name.com to Namecheap.com

I am trying to save renewal fee.
My problem is that my domain expires on 21st oct 2012(yes today) and its on name.com. I ordered a transfer at namecheap.com yesterday morning and completed all the transfer procedure by submitting the security code etc. Now its pending and on Namecheap the status shows as

Transfer in progress - mydomain.com. is awaiting release from current registrar. No actions required, please allow up to 5 days for the transfer to complete.

Expiration date is today and name.com will take another four days to release the domain. What should I do now? I don't want to lose the domain. I know I have been lazy and I should have done the transfer etc earlier.

What should I do? Should I renew it on name.com too?

It should be ok, as long as it is unlocked and your registrar doesn't automatically lock domains upon expiry. At most registrars you can still transfer out after expiry.

I know Godaddy lets you expedite the transfer by going into your control panel and approving right away, after the email request has been authorized.

Check if Name.com allows this.
