All I can think is they are holding some back for later auctions like the Adult one later in the year.

Two of the five biggest airports in the world are on the list - LAX (Los Angeles) and LHR (Heathrow). These seem like perfect domains for checking departure & arrival times on your phone while enroute to the airport. I checked the WHOIS and they're owned by the same guy that grabbed scores.mobi and cab.mobi. Cha-ching!

I do not see a problem buying home.mobi or vacations.mobi, this are simple generic names that could be used for so many things as far you keep away from the class of trademark for which it was filed for.
home and vacations are strong generic terms used in the public domain and you may also want to read more about trademark.

For the domain, it is not a good faith if we try to sell it. In that situation, it is easy to lost it if the TradeMark's owner want to get it back. IMO

I might have misunderstood your previous post.
The trademark owner here seems to be the owners of the domain names you want to buy.
I do not see how they would get the domain names back if you make clear of your intention to them before buying the names.
Signed agreement would be a good option in buying this names from the owners.

I work in the IT travel sector. Airport codes mean next to nothing to the ordinary traveller, business traveller maybe more relevance. IMO the smart money is on the carriers provding that information. Some intances I can think of ba,klm,virgin,jal.mobi etc. A lot more punchier than some airport code.

I zeroed in on that very example when I reviewed the list early this morning. Some of my personal frustration relates to being highly selective in my submissions because I appreciate they have a hard job putting together something as large, and meaningful, as the New York auction. Any name I've ever submitted was quality, no junk.

The auction requires significant time investment too on our part so naturally one expects a logical, well-managed process by the selection committee.

True - but I'm not talking about a worldwide market. Anyone that lives in the LA area knows what LAX is and all of the UK knows what LHR stands for. Users would only access the mobile airport site of their own city if they were on the way to catch a flight or picking up an arrival and wanted to know if it was on time. Makes sense to me.

More importantly, I didn't have to look that up (honestly never heard of Governor's Island) and I know you didn't have to either. It's almost like a piece of crap that is so big and obvious that you can tell from 50 yards away that it's a piece of crap. As far as it being a product of hype in the auction, Moniker should be concerned about each and every one of their auctions and the names that get through, as it is their job to QC the auction and make sure only good names get in. What I think is happening is that they are either doing favors for people OR are paying people that have absolutely no idea about domains that see a big range like on GovernorsIsland.mobi and assume it's a good name. Maybe it's a combination of both!

Yeah, I submited ManhattanIsland for a much, much lower reserve. Again not a strong name but with a lot more recognition and commerce application than GovernersIsland methinks.

Methinks so too. ManhattanIsland.mobi is a decent name IMO -- at least it seems so for a Canadian that doesn't know of many American islands, but has heard of that one

But the trademark is registered in Pakistan, PK can this be genuine ? heard a lot of scams as trademarks can be easily registered in pakistan.

These 2 names should be in the reserved premium list.

Did the person paid a premium for these registration OR just registered for the registered fees ?

I think this person got a trademark registered very easily and very cheap could be less than 1000 $ and got these 2 names from the dot.mobi mtld, and is selling them high.. These all domains are verymuch OVERPRICED. ..IMO

I disagree really. LHR is not a familiar term to UK residents. We have two majot airports Heathrow and Gatwick. That's how ithey get refferred to, never as LHR,or LGW it's not in the public mindset.

Bizzarely enough people do tend to refer to LAX as the name of the Airport which shows there is some mileage there.

We charter and use scheduled carrires out of all UK major airports. We offer a service to clients already to advise on flight delays and upgrades via SMS messaging. Works well.

Too funny :D ! It's a historic site, they hold festivals and other events there, and they rent out the event facilities to private parties - given the location, that's probably big $$$$$. That price sounds awfully optimistic, but nothing surprises me any more.

(I live near there, I know what it is, I know approximately where it is, but I couldn't point it out on a map either!)

How do you submit your domain names to be included or considered in these auctions? I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere that says how.

I think I read earlier in the thread that a future one will be for Adult names, and I'm keen on submitting for that one (my best ones are bigbum.mobi & wellhung.mobi).

Also, who decides on which reserve category to list in, them or you?
