Word Count vs. Wallet Impact: A Domain Sales Snapshot

What's the real relationship between the length of a domain name and its price? A deep dive into a single day's aftermarket data provides a clear, quantitative picture. Analyzing the NameBio sales dataset for December 13th, 2025, which tracks 546 domains sold for over $100, reveals definitive trends on where money is being spent and where the volume lies. This report breaks down the performance of single-word, two-word, and longtail domains.

1. Core Metrics: The Clear Inverse Relationship

The most striking finding is the inverse correlation between domain name length and average sale price. While two-word domains made up the bulk of transactions, it was the concise, single-word assets that commanded significant premiums.

Domain CategoryNumber Sold% of Total SalesAvg. Sale Price
1-Word Domains11020.1%$1,242
2-Word Domains30756.2%$717
3+ Word Domains (Longtail)12923.6%$475
All Domains546100.0%$747
Takeaway: Single-word domains are the most lucrative per sale (avg. $1,242), but two-word domains offer the highest volume of opportunities (56.2% of sales). Longtail domains represent a significant niche (23.6%) at a lower average price point.

I was hoping for some new insights, but this is very similar to previous topics discussed.

May I suggest some AI-related content? Such as using AI to improve one's domain game.

Has your AI bot improved at counting words since your last post?

Last time there were multiple errors, like counting 2 word domains as 3 word domains.

Therefore, incorrectly skewing the data.

Longtail domains make up only 14.37% of total sales (in dollars). Not all that impressive.

You would probably be better off learning to find higher quality domains than spending so much time and effort trying to justify longtail domains.

Most longtail sales have nothing to do with the generic nature of the domain.

You're saying that to a mathematician, so make sure your data and conclusions are correct next time.

Can you clarify what you're referring to so I can address your point directly? I'm always open to feedback on the data or its presentation.

AI is now a standard global practice for data analysis and interpretation. The current methodology is precise and consistent. If you have a specific example where you believe the count is inaccurate, please share it for verification.

It was already pointed out, you just ignored it.

Your AI is not accurately counting words.

immigrationconsultants.com is 2 words, not 3.
indigenousrights.com is 2 words, not 3.

Just a couple examples. When you can't get the counts right, the data is wrong.

More nonsense...

The 4th section is just a mess - comparing things with no examples.

It's just like their 1-sided feedback.

Those domains aren’t part of my article or dataset.
My analysis is strictly based on the NameBio sales list for Dec 13, 2025.

If those domains were mentioned only as examples, then you’re right.
Otherwise, classification should be discussed only within the same dataset, or conclusions become misleading.

Happy to review any domain from the actual list used.

Thanks for your feedback.
