Top 10 things the .TV Corporation should be doing now

1. They should be updating their database of available names in Real Time
2. Each week they should auction off a premium domain starting at $10.00
3. They should hire a PR firm and market like crazy the .TV extension. Post ads on entrepreneur.com, BusinessWeek.com, CNet.com, Ad Word Campaigns! Get the message out there now!
4. They should have an updated list of new available premium domains (better yet, they should send out an email to members letting them know of new available premiums and let them have first grab)
5. They should list newly available non-premium names
6. They should enable us to go through the premium lists by page number or at least by Letter so that you don’t need to spend an hour going through every page just to see what is available in the letter “Z”
7. They should announce every time a premium is registered. Both on their site and in a press release. When IT.TV was registered it would have been nice if a press release went out.
8. They should have a blog that lets us know what’s going on at headquarters, what are they thinking, what’s new. Let us comment on their posts and build up the extension
9. Send out a monthly email newsletter (like Sedo)
10. Offer premium domain holders more features like free hosting or being listed in a directory or other great features

Am I missing anything?

I can't agree more.

One more thing I am always thinking in my mind is that whether .tv can be upgraded to international domain gTld for TV or video industry as .mobi .travel do.

You hit the obvious appropriate aspects, point No.1 and No.3, about the necessary need for complete change at .TV Corp.
I do not know about Hollywood but I can tell you that in my tv business sector in Europe it is clear that most of the entertaining companies do not know the existence of the extension (if they care about this kind of issue usually it is their IT, Market, Intell Prop. sectors which deals with this issue). However I have noticed from my discussions with my collab/co-prod contacts that most companies having discovered the .tv have promptly registered it. So I DO believe that the .TV Corp/VeriSign isn't good in communication strategy, not good in press relations, and in the global picture not good at all in the retail arena. I have nothing to say about their business model, just believe, like you, that they should do a supreme effort on communication and promotion. I know supermarket sofa sellers who would do much better that 'what' has been done so far by .TV Corp in term of communication and promotion.

The remaining points are just of our domainer concern, although I would welcome them as nice & useful tools, it is evident that the rest of the world isn't concerned by these details.

True, but when us domainers are happy, more will be registered, built, promoted & sold. Everytime we announce a sale of a .tv domain or we launch a website with the .tv extension, we are promoting .tv corp

I can tell you none of those will get done, especially the part about keeping domainers happy when Verisign would like domainers to not reg .tv domains. Several times I have been told this is not a domainer extension that was part of the reason why things were priced like they are. I had a funny email today from Verisign. There is a reason why Scott Higgason left He was with DOT TV from the beginning I think he knew they were not going to promote it. I one time mentioned the forum here said how it helped the ext, generated registrations I said a link on www.tv would be good for both. I was told it would take up to a year for that to be approved. Verisigns interest in .tv is collecting premium domain registrations it is a tiny part of Verisign and will never get any real attention from a PR standpoint IMO

How about going to conferences like T.R.A.F.F.I.C and auction off few names like dotmobi is doing?

I know and believe that .tv corp cares less about domainers, which inside of me,I like, but the above suggestion is good for end users too.

Thanks,

GH

I don't think the people behind T.R.A.F.F.I.C have any interest in .tv

Is there a way for us as a group to do some promoting?

I have an idea. Lets get 50 people to pay me $1000 each for one of my premiums. Lets say for Peru.tv. I will then do a massive press release letting everyone know that Peru.tv sold for $50,000!!!

Anyone in?

Peru.tv?

Um no. But if Miller wants to put up IT.TV or Education.tv for sale to an investment group in which he has a stake and receives that money, and there is a concrete plan on how to market it and the .tv domain, then he that has some potential to bring $1000 per person.

Interesting concept.....but I must add that these two are not my names, they belong to a partnership between myself and another member of this forum and I need to put that out there so people know this.... :talk:

FYI, I was kidding about peru.tv, I am believer in people coming together to register premium domains, 20 of my premiums are with 2 partners.

I was making a joke that if no one that should be marketing .tv extension is doing it, then maybe we should.

It is a small group in a big firm and therefore undermanaged and underloved.

It is OK, it will succeed despite itself because its time is coming.

What was the funny email equity?

These 10 words penned by Antonis are the sum of all parts that persuaded me to get involved in a major way. I also believe that .TV is bigger than the company that is supposed to be promoting it.....

ABSOLUTELY ........ and it's evident that Verisign has got a idea that they need to start moving this ext, by offering 70% discounts. I personally dont know the financial numbers in terms of reg. and renewal fees. But I do know that Verisign knows they cant continue to "sit " on these names.

Also the fact that they apparently reduced the transfer fee among .tv accounts.

There is a transfer fee? How much is the transfer fee? Is it a different price if it is a premium name? Thanks!

Yup, there is a transfer fee for transfer of names among .tv accounts.

It used to be equal to the one year registration fee of the name. But it seems it is blanket 50$ fee for any name, premium or not. You can only confirm with Fatmatu as it is not explained on their site.

I wonder if that transfer fee will ever be raised to a crazy amount. Also, do you get an additional year when you pay the transfer fee? When selling the .tv names, who should pay for the transfer fee? The buyer, seller or split? I would assume split makes the most sense. Thanks!
