I haven't been into .tv really. Have just one .tv name - Factbook.tv.
I was looking at the eNom .tv premium list.
Now most of those names are rubbish (would anyone ever reg z9o.tv for $300? I think not..), and I won't be surprised if they don't get regged for the next 10 years.

Do you think that the TV corporation, seeing that most of its .tv names aren't selling, would perhaps reduce their prices, or somehow remove the .tv premium pricing structure altogether?
In that case, that would lead to a second landrush when everyone will be out to get News.tv, and the smaller players will be easily able to get some nice LLL.tvs or even LL.tvs

But is it gonna happen anytime soon?

You're absolutely right. The premium problem is the only thing holding Dot TV back. It could rule the world if they would sort this out!! (well, nearly!).

For the life of me I can't see why they cannot find a solution. Is News.TV (500K p.a. lol) better left gathering virtual dust? Or would it be better used by a big corporation so you see the .TV in every bulletin and ad break?

They should give it away as a loss leader.

The words 'stupidity' and 'greed' do rather come to mind though.

agreed. the more I look at .tv, the more Im beginning to like it. It makes perfect sense, and it will definitely stay (compared to .mobi, which I think will be dead in two years as iPhone like phones become the norm...anybody who's used iPhone mobile browsing would know).

Come to think of it, there is a list of close to 10,000 premium names left to be regged. If there is a landrush, there will be plenty of fish in the sea for everyone.

WOW the do away with premiums song never ends its been often repeated PREMIUMS are going nowhere, ever since the beginning the model has always been about PREMIUM domains from Jason Chapnik to IDEALAB to Verisign its always been about premium pricing. Verisign paid $45 million for the DOT TV corp and they do not believe they will make that back with $10 domains or $50 domains for that matter. There are plenty of LLL and LL regged and renewed each year for it to work for them and secondly Verisign parks their premium domains so they do not sit and collect dust they have earned ppc off of their premium domains for years. They mix it up and point some to Carson Daly then they switch some back to ppc so there is no dust collecting.

Secondly there is a payment due to TUVALU for $550,000 every quarter again not going to be made selling .tv at .com pricing.

Now the premium renewal fee is another story that should be altered to keep people in the .tv domains they registered.

Lastly for those complaining about premium fees you came to this extension in 06 or 07 if there were no premium fees you would own no good domains would have all been regged 2002 at the latest. Again IMO

Excellent point.
The preimum fees detered people from hording and I got two domains I really wanted this year, one at a much higher premium that it was pre-eNom (that's my own fault for dragging my heels) but I bet much cheaper than if I'd tried to buy off of another domainer.

You miss my point. I know the 'premium' story. I was simply hypothesising how much better it would be FOR THE .TV EXTENSION if, for example, news.tv was a cnn news site - for example.

I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. I am fully conversant with the premium situation.

equity- topics are always gonna be brought up over and over- posts get buried quick and newbies are always coming in, and have questions- plus info is constantly updated- i know for some subjects it seems redundant, especially being the mod and seeing it all since inception- but topics are like life, it just all ends up repeating itself-

i see what you are saying- but i cant help but think.... if business and news .tv are never bought- there is a big picture here and if they single concern is the premiums will uphold the business- then all we can do is make tv huge, without those premiums- can be done with no problem- business and news are just two words-

premiums should not hold tv back- in the end if never bought, it may make verisign look even stupider than they do today, but i still see tv being huge withsome making mynews.tv huge or enews.tv big- and saying screw news.tv-

the internet is a flexible thing- there will always be the frank schilling .com core, but its a shame he and others have no desire to ride the ever changing waves- and those waves give people the chance to have great sites, with great names that they branded, without having sex.com or news.tv

Premium names are moving and there has been quite an uptake of them over the last month. This has been mentioned in a couple of posts.

The good quality generics are disappearing very quickly as are the LL's (those at the $1k price). The handful of Geo's between $1-5k I was following have all been regged.

The Premium List is also fluid - that is, names are regged and names get dropped and added back. Looking at the total number of Premium names available is not a good indicator to judge whats happening.

Taking Sashas example of z9o.tv for $300 - well, Premium or $9.99 or $24.99 - its hard to see it being regged at any price IMO and there are 30,000+ names like that.
