I know there are a number of people here who have been acquiring geo names to either resell or develop.

For those of you who are developing the geo names, how are they coming about?

What is the list of things that is holding you back?

What is your goal for your site when it has been fully developed?
(ex: Video social networking, city guide, city travel, video site about your city,... )

I've been doing a lot of research for about a year now.

I think geo is a massive project that requires help from multiple sources in the local area that you are covering.

I guess it will depend on the extent that you are going into.

1) Sticky content.
2) Sticky content.
3) Sticky content.

Boston.TV looks good. But, look at their numbers at Quantcast.
http://www.quantcast.com/boston.tv

Boston.tv doesn't appear to be getting alot of traction. Sorry, I know I'm going to get stoned for this comment - but this data is very important. Boston.tv, with their produced local videos, doesn't appear to be very sticky.

Tulsa.TV appears to have more traction with mostly advertiser videos and text-based local content

Tulsa.TV is in our sweet spot more than Boston.TV.

Now we just have to get enough videos from our local advertiser network.

We also believe the Local Experts tools will be MORE sticky than even the video content.

I've tried to view the world thru a video eye. In studying this problem for many man-hours, I'm now convinced that video alone won't get it done.

There is one YouTube. Video works for them. That doesn't mean video (by itself) will work for every site.

IMHO GEO .TV needs to be more than a site with only videos.

Right now, I'm working on securing advertiser videos and getting local experts to participate in our network. That is one reason why we have our own advertiser network.

Hey you asked my opinion - I could be wrong.

Sure is massive, and that is with a single city. Imagine having 25 cities. One of the reasons to have GEO .TV is to go "deep" in a single market. The more cities you own, the less "deep" you can go in any individual city. You just need to learn to work smarter, not harder.

Jeff, good talking to you on PM :)

Thanks for your input George :)

A perfect example of geo .com owned by big newspaper company in my area is
Toronto.com (I think I've mentioned this previously).

Imagine if we can create a site like this with more videos.
Comprehensive city guide + videos would certainly be attractive.

One of the hard part in creating this (aside from marketing and getting visitors) may be obtaining the ever updating contents like events (which is vital imo for locals who are visiting their local geo site)... at least in the beginning.
