.tv GEO TV Question

A couple things we all have in common: birth, death, taxes, and the fact that we live somewhere.

I own Loudoun.TV and NorthernVirginia.TV (where I live). I also own NorthernNeck.TV and MyrtleBeach.TV.

IMHO No better way to play GEO TV, than to own the town/city you call home.

So do you own your town/city GEO.TV? If so, are you developing? Do you plan to promote it at local events?

I do not......I live out in the countryside, nearest town is 7 miles away. Small rural iowa town with less then 2500 people, 4 bars, 7 churches and not much else except a dairy queen.

I just wouldn't bother because my research would just lead me to asking questions in the bars. Things like "Can I have a scotch?" and "Can I have another?".

The closest big town is Des Moines, and we both know I don't own that one. In fact, I own the suburbs, but am doing not much with them and would like to sell them if someone would offer me money......

I grew up in a rural town with 800 people. The closest large town has 1,200.
Two radio stations. So the market is large enough to support those stations with local advertising revenue.

IMHO A town that size is large enough to make a couple hundred to low $X,XXX a month in advertising revenue.

Once again, all depends on your desire to make sales calls and desire to promote the site.

But you are a technie. I'm sure, development wouldn't be an issue.

If you launched your town.TV with a message board, videos, and content - one thing is for sure.

Everyone in town will know there is a .TV extension.

Yeah, I know. The town name has been in my shopping cart for a long time. I am seriously considering the purchase, just not sure if I want to do it.

The town name itself is gone so it would be xxxxIowa.tv. And quite frankly, the 1.99 .info seems like a better fit then a 12.95 tv. Particularly true since there is very little video for it.

I can overtake the town .com in no time since it is garbage with no seo on it to speak of.

If I could get the town name with no state at the end for 12.99 I would do it, but am a little leary of doing it with the state on the end. And especially considering small town mentality of advertising for 50 cents in the local paper, these old farmers aren't going to be spending 20 a month on a web site ad. Just won't happen.

Local I been grabbing a lot of local city names here in Michigan, county names, township names. I was thinking of building a local portal with vs channels on it. But I have couple other things on the plate and if someone can offer me a few bucks I will take it, sell to city or something like that.

Central Michigan vs Western Michigan. Its cool that I can watch on ESPN2 TV or go to ESPN 360 and watch.

I think local sports (HS, etc) is one way for GEO TV to get tons of relevant content that drives usage.

Fox is offering their local markets across the nation the option for users to upload their high school sports “highlights”.

I think its one of many good ideas to attract and retain users/visitors.

Seriously, the reason I bought a lake domain name was because there's a lot of expensive real estate around our lake and when it comes time to sell our home this domain will come in handy.
