There is no such thing as a .com-to-.AnythingElse comparison. ANYONE who compares another extension to a .com is showing their amateurism in domaining. :)

Stop comparing .COM sales, thats all you ever do, its really not relevant, even a a total mispelling like Wisky.com in .COM is worth 1000 times a .xyz, so try and avoid using .com sales as any kind of comparison

Amateur noob trap #2:

I mean no offense here, but I wouldn't pay reg fee for some of these in .com. So you can't judge whether the extension has value because you didn't sell any of these. i don't know what will happen with xyz, but I think you'll have a great shot at turning a profit with

Here's $900 worth of xyz hand reg domains. If they go up in value great, if not I haven't lost that much, but if we look at the price that 3L 3N 4N 6.xyz, 8.xyz. Have gotten and are getting it looks promising, put when I'm speculating I know there's a good chance they'll be worthless so I diversify and don't lose any sleep over it.

No disrespect intended, but what made you think these would ever be worth owning? Pretty much your entire list would be regfee even in .net.

Investing a bit in a new extension isn't bad, but you can't do it absentmindedly. You more or less threw $900 away. And you coulda done something great yet instead, you regged domains that could never really be worth $1 per.

Again, no disrespect intended. I'm just trying to understand.

Here's $900 worth of xyz hand reg domains. If they go up in value great, if not I haven't lost that much, but if we look at the price that 3L 3N 4N 6.xyz, 8.xyz. I saw the ones you bought, You kicked some butt on that and got some great ones. B-)
Hand reg'ing numerics is done and now we wait. 9393.info was at $170.00 bid this morning with 4 days left. It's beating .co and .org. You did good on your buys with that.
Thanks man . Lets see how it goes :)

Yeah, there are PREMIUM names and premium names.
The former are all in .com

Well I didn't know that :P .... But seriously. We will not go any where discussing it like you just said. If anything that is not .Com is not premium, then I wonder who was paying a lot of money over the years for those other extensions.

Reg fee in net? There aren't any .biz chips left.

So there's
4L chips
4L Pinyin
NN88
CVCV
Words
And prounouncable 4L

Since its a Chinese preferred extension I catered to them. I care more about comparing to .cc in the Chinese market, look at what's trading there. A lot of different strings in cc have far surpassed net in registrations.

Regardless they're definitely not reg fee in net.

I kinda agree what you saw and how you read the market specially after the craziness in .org and .biz that just happened. Good luck with your investment. I hope you make a lot.

People do not simply keep desperately adding another word on just so they can have a dot com. After 4 or even 5 words the value is so low that another extension will naturally rise up for 1 and 2 words, and take 4 or 5 word .com's place as being more valuable - and thus more widely used.
It's always the same fallacy.

First of all, almost all extensions are 'growing'. A few are losing numbers though. But generally speaking people are buying names in pretty much any TLD that is more or less open. So there is natural growth all across the board.

Therefore, some of the demand for domain names is of course 'spilling over' to the less popular extensions. Nothing new here. But that doesn't mean people will pay a lot. In fact, they will normally pay no more than regfee. They might buy a name in .whatever if it's available, but not if it's already taken by a domainer. Because it's not their first choice, they will move on to another domain/TLD.

If you look at reported sales, they always take place in the most popular extensions for a reason, the rest are exceptions.
That's why speculating in outlier extensions is hard.
That's what we are here for, to sell domains right.

Right now, there is a lot of marketing and hype about .xyz, so people are buying .xyz because they've been told it's 'cool'. But the momentum will only last that long. We have yet to see serious development in the extension. People will not take .xyz seriously if all they get is spam and scam. There is a real danger here, webmasters are still shunning .biz/.info due to the abuse that took place years ago and the lack of legitimate sites.

All that said, there is currently no evidence that XYZ will be "it". But I see no reason why it couldn't be, probably along with other changes such as popular newgTLDs like ".site" and ."online". The internet will change, and .com may remain king, but others will rise up :)
'Rise up' is very relative, when the 'legacy' TLDs are still outgrowing the new extensions.
The gap between new and 'established' extensions is widening over time, so the new extensions actually look less and less popular in comparison. It's another overlooked fact.

PS: I can tell you one thing, in Europe (where I live), the local extensions are often preferred to .com, or second to .com - that depends on the market. End users will usually want either or both, but there is virtually zero interest in new extensions in those mature markets.

Even the end users who already own domain names, are not familiar with the new extensions. They may vaguely know they exist, but they don't visit their registrar every day, and they don't buy domains every day either. Their awareness is patchy.
There has to be awareness before the demand follows.

IMO domainers should go out more, and mingle with business owners and ordinary persons who are not domainers
:lookaround:

That's another point to talk about, .org was never even a preferred extension to the Chinese. They liked xyz at the beginning. Org sold out of 4L first but only, I think, because it had a head start and there is value in the established extensions.

At a $1-$2 a name the risk/benefit analysis is positive and shows good signs. I'd take Chinese premium letters and numbers in xyz all day before keywords.

The thing is I'm not even guessing at anything, just looking at the market for the last 3 months.

Which is crazy, it's like blitzkreig donaining, but it's simply watching the signs. The market is basically screaming at us what extension, strings and patterns will have value next. Until it falls apart, but that's an acceptable risk.

Also no disrespect to you:

In fact if you look at the only thing that's sold in xyz to any volume it's these kind of names. You'd kinda have to be living under a rock not to see what's happening. Every LLL.xyz NNN.xyz NNNN.xyz is liquid and commanding 100x + reg fee prices. Not many people are letting these names sell at this point they're all being hoarded very tightly.

You can explain all you want, we all know what the more common spelling is. You can read different articles everywhere about whether its 2 different spirits, a mispelling, or 2 different spellings of the same word

Some say its the same spirit, some say it depends what country you are from as to how you spell it

http://www.mensjournal.com/food-drink/drinks/the-proper-spelling-of-whisky-or-is-it-whiskey-20150331

http://www.thekitchn.com/whiskey-vs-whisky-whats-the-di-100476

I assume you are a "Whisky" expert and know the difference?? (hope it wasnt from wikipedia) ;)

Haha that's a funny thing you say that ... considering my family used to own their own distillery for Whiskey and their own vineyard for Wines. I am not going any further with you on this nonsense. Believe what you want. Thanks

Yes they aren't selling much now which makes them the opposite of liquid. It's a massive speculation. I like xyz and China seems to be OK with it but it's too early to invest in hundreds of 4L xyz chips right now, but I wish you luck with the jackpot.

I disagree, I said they're not letting them sell. If you have them offers are coming in all over the place. (We're taking about LLL NNN NNNN)

Of course it's all speculation, just like anything else to some degree. The point is finding acceptable risks with potential high returns.

I'm not saying anyone should run out and buy any xyz's. There are tons of other speculatory options, certainly many more with proven track records.

To your comment "it's too early to invest in 4L xyz chips"
-There hasn't been any available for months, so I agree, at this point you're already going to pay a premium
-the best time to "speculate" is before they take off.

And again I'm not saying they will or will not take off, just saying it was an acceptable risk at less than $2 a name to buy.

I see what you did there, so tricky, you said jackpot like the lottery.

Kinda I guess, except I can watch them print the tickets in this case.
