Has anyone had experience that from time to time domains that were previously shown as free in bulk search were not free 5 minutes later when you enter the same one in usual search?

Hi

you have to own it, before it can be theft.

also, registrar you used, may not be real-time

or, you have could mistyped the name in bulk and put correct spelling in single search

or, somebody else had same name in mind and registered it before you did.

check whois, to see when domain in question was registered.

imo...

What if registrars can buy names and back date them? Hardly likely :xf.eek:
To add on the "back dating" part is that, yes a registrar can change the registration date it has internally and on their whois endpoint, however, the registration date at the registry will not be "back dated".
It will stay exactly the same and only users performing a whois/rdap request on the registrar endpoint will see the false date, but it's always best to refer to the registry for the most accurate information if you don't need anything the registrar controls/publishes such as the contacts

Some registrars show the most uncanny domains as free, but "change their mind" when you try adding them to cart. It's just lazy coding (saving on api calls), not malevolence. Of course it can happen that you check a domain and it's free, then a few hours, minutes or even seconds later it's taken. Happens often with domains expired in the last few days, or with domains related to current news, but for me it also happened at least once with a domain I just thought about without any context.

If it is only registration dates, then the "whois -n" command in Linux is far better than using a whois tool or browser plugin because it queries the registry WHOIS server directly. The -n option tells the program not to redirect to the relevant registrar's WHOIS server.

The ICANN status code for the registations can provide information on whether the domain name is active, in active or pending deletion.
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/epp-status-codes-2014-06-16-en

Sometimes, as can be seen from the status codes above, a domain name might not be active or in the zone file. The other thing to watch out for with WHOIS sites is if the data is cached rather than live.

I have private reasons for not using GoDaddy to search for unregistered domains. It might be poor coding or something else but I still have my doubts.

After all we don't live in a fair world.

What if registrars can grab domains and backdate them?
They actually own the programs, what are the things they can view from their end that's hidden to the public? I can go on and on. But don't mind me. I'm sleep typing again

The .co ccTLD is not covered by ICANN. Godaddy acquired Neustar's registry business a while ago and .co was one of the ccTLDs in the deal.

I have checked three of them on who.is and yes they had already been registered months before.
Now I can use bulk search again.
Thanks a lot and good luck.

If you think up gems why aren't you paying instantly i have spoken before of "front running" it happens at whois, registrars and 'could' happen anywhere that you type in names. If you like a name and want to buy it stop typing it out also if it goes off 10x there is a good reason to buy it if watching.

The best thing is to register the name instantly....you don't need to just type the name and leave it.... Thinking it will remain unregistered...it happens to me times without number...

I have stop to search for name when I am not ready or have cash on my card.... Some register also are domaining.

amazing how threads like these always end same way. plz just consider b4 posting that gd and others have better things to do than just the silly names we search for.

At that scale, it's not done by hand.
Sometime ago the same thing happened at NetSol and probably still happens but it's difficult to reproduce it, however all the names have something in common, they were dropped on the same day and left unpaid at netsol.
They also send all of these names on Snapnames..
This is still called frontrunning however.

Make a list with your wanted domains.

Get foxwhois (free for .com, paid for any other extensions), and check if they are free to register.

Hi

just a note

i would never use gobaddy, to check domain availability

use another registrar to check, then go register at gd if you wish.

also, there have been reported instances of "frontrunning" domains at the registrar level
the article below is from 2012
https://www.dirjournal.com/articles/godaddy-front-running-domains/

imo...
it's wasn't on Godady it happened on Dynadot. But more another very good suggestion from You. :)
Good point.
I see by yours clever and witty thinking that you are very good at domaining in general.
Thank you.

Years ago i remember at one registrar it was way worse every name registered was instantly displayed for everyone to see so could predict what others were registering and it would happen every time.
That was probably the most anti-customer marketing decision ever!

What's the difference between foxwhois and whois websites? Better confidentiality?
Sometime API etc i have some whois sites some a lot more coding than next

Customer service can know what domain I'm looking for. I never told him

Mistyped for sure not because I immediately thought that might be the reason so I paid full attention to it.Maybe it is about real time. Maybe fresh data late for a while in bulk search because of some reason.
I am talking about 10-20 "steals" which happened three times out of lets say ten times like it depends who is working in register and about his or hers free time during work. I hope it's only because of real time in bulk search. I was so scared after that happened that I stopped using bulk search.:)
Next time I will check whois!!! Very good tip.
Thank You.

I don't know what's crazier. My thought of something like that or that something like that could really happen.
I hope the namepros would buzz about it if something like this really happened often.
Thank You for your post. last three domains I wrote: enjojrealestate.com, getinrealestate.com and ready4realestate.com . So, classic not uncanny and 2-3 minutes later and all three in that case.
It's just nice to hear that it's not malevolence from you and it's nice not to hear buzz on napepros on this subject in general.;)
Thank You and good luck.
