The official .mobi/ .asia/ .me/ .TV sucks thread

It seems every good thread these days gets filled with .mobi/ .asia/ .IDN/ .TV/ .us, debates. So here's a thread we can have at it! We can also refer people here if things get heated.

;)

I'll start with a neutral statement:

WTF is the point of .mobi?

And her statement said the market decides. Bank of America already reported over 1 million users on Bofa.mobi. I guess the market is deciding. Granted it will take time, but, it is slowly happening. This is a long term play. Nobody expects mainstream awareness overnight :)
BOFA has no role in your .mobi value.

.EU has at least three to four times more end users (in terms of real companies and small businesses) then .mobi and look at their value now.  . Whopeedoo ONE Company using .mobi.

Shit, I could name a big company using just about any extension in the world.

There are approximately 25 million people that use Bank of America's online system.

1 million people is a lot. 1 million out of 25 million - there's still some time to grow - time will tell.

Exactly...time to grow. That's all we as investors are saying. Lets give the mobile space time to develop before we declare something "dead". In all honesty this thing could go in many different directions...nobody knows yet.

Lets put it the most easy to way to describe:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.eu,+.mobi

.EU hype was during that spike.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.eu,+.mobi&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

I don't see flowers.eu selling for $400k anytime soon.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.biz,+.mobi&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

A worse tld, the good old , dead, defunct, .biz.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.mobi,+.ch&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

My favorite European cctld, .ch. Dominating .mobi in the WORLDWIDE performance, sad considering switzerland is an itsy bitsy country in the EU.

3,000 million vs 7 million.

And the most fascinating statistic of them all:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=.mobi,+.lu&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

3,000 million vs. 0.5 million. Go go go .LU! Maybe my cars.lu can sell for $50k at this rate?

Pure numbers

Reported one million users on its "dot Mobey" ... ... OR one million unique active Mobile Banking customers?!? :|

I would like to see the actual REAL TRAFFIC and UNIQUE STATS ... because with the advent of the iPhone and other smart phones/devices and advances with auto-detection / browsers, I believe most ... if not all ... accessed directly from: :gl:
Link: http://www.bankofamerica.com/mobile/ :imho:

Is this yet another case ... of the non stand-alone corporate "redirect"?!? :guilty:
IYHO's.

Thanks for the assist.

Jeff here is the real URL:

www.bofa.COM , notice WFURL in action. Sad everyone is hypeing it when TYPING IN the .com in your phone gets mobile. Tsk tsk, thats the death to .mobi already.

www.ready.mobi type in BOFA.COM

http://ready.mobi/results.jsp?uri=http://bofa.com&locale=en_EN

In any how, I highly recommend everyone to invest in the great .LU extention. D-:

Righto, Bofa.com looks great! :music: :talk:

Scores as, "It will probably display well on a mobile phone" ... which is, literally, better than 98%+/+ of "dot Mobey" sites (so much for the so-called "trustmark" argument, IMHO). :guilty:

Now, what about those REAL "Mobile Banking" customers' stats? :gl:
IYHO's.

what mobile address does BofA advertise and market?
And what will the customer type in instead? Ever WONDER why poker sites advertise "free poker" on the .NET site? Aside from legal ramifications.

Type In Instincts > Then any Ad campaign. This is well known. Most mainstream users would think the following:

1. What is .mobi??!? Is that even a real extention?
2. Types in .com instead. Oh works perfectly! How USEFUL!

Done.

In any case, any argument for search traffic or development of .mobi is quite weak when its on even pace with a country of 400k, no matter how you try to spin it. 3,000,000,000/400,000 = 750,000% advantage :yell: :yell:

When .mobiers cant answer the question, they know they have lost. No counter to type in argument. Yawn. In anycase, I posted a great .mobi for sale at the forum.

Again, any casual user will type in BOFA.com, see it works, and continue use .com. Done.

Great name! :xf.love:

What's especially telling with those google trend graphs is the complete lack of mobi growth to match actual mobile device use. The past three years has seen an explosion in their use, yet mobi charts flat... what's wrong with that picture?

CnnMoney.com - Works great on any mobile :)

Once again bocavision posting his random junk. I dont know how much time he has to search google for every link that has a .mobi, buried on a secondary page that no one visits. This is completely laughable.

NBA.com - NBA.mobi - SAME
Godaddy.com - Godaddy.mobi - SAME
ATT.com - ATT.mobi - SAME
tdnam.com - tdnam.mobi- SAME
wnba.com - wnba.mobi - SAME
Connexie.nl - Connexie.mobi - SAME
Weather.com - Weather.mobi - SAME

And the list goes on and on....

What funny was back in the day, bofa.com was a full FLEDGED website on the phone... now its going to mobile version. HMM, looks like Bank of America realized .mobi advertising wasn't working out too swell.

In any case, its quite sad when one must bust out his camera and take a picture when he sees a .mobi advertisement. When I visit europe, I will be taking pictures of .lu advertisements, probably too many to fit my memory card :(

Here's yet another "corporate redirect" (this time for Xbox "dot Mobey"): :gl:
http://xbox.icmsp.com/xbox/sx119250xsen/ct/
(^ Rated "3" at Ready ... "It will possibly display poorly on a mobile phone!") :red:

Point is ... despite the aforementioned spam, FLUFF, and hype ... there is ZERO actual substance when it comes to mTLD and the struggling "dot Mobey", IMHO. For every spammy "news" post / link or hype thread, there is a completely logical and factual counter disproving the claim(s) ... these spammy posts being even further evidence of desperation on the part of the "dot Mobey"! :guilty: :imho:

The fumbling and bumbling by mTLD, its branding NIGHTMARE!!, the abandoning of the RFP process and failure to enforce the development mandates!, the literally 1,000's and 1,000's or "reserved" domains still languishing, and the CRITICAL LACK of substantive End user developments and dedicated corporate adoption and awareness, as well as the new *** VERY IMPORTANT *** and DILUTING "mobile" TLD's are all extremely valid reasons for its certain near-term demise! :o :imho:
R.I.P.

On topic, the "dot Mobey" Sucksโ„ข ... and I truly hope some folks here who have been paying attention to the balanced discussion of the FACTS and sharing of opinions here (which can't be found elsewhere) have saved some real money in avoiding registrations and countless years of "dot Mobey" renewals! :$: :imho:

Take care for now ... and Happy 4th vacation, friends! :music:

:bingo:

On the Mobile Web, ESPN's WAP (wireless web) (wap.espn.com) site averaged more than 2 million unique daily visitors to golf content during tournament, generating nearly 3 million page views.

^ From the recent FierceWirelessโ„ข "press-release" (again - NO MENTION whatsoever of the ESPN "dot Mobey" redirect)! :tri:

ESPN "dot Mobey" redirects to:
http://mobileapp.espn.go.com/wireless/espn/redesign/index

Clearly, in summation, there is a thorough and well documented and very CONVINCING factual corporate lack of dedicated, stand-alone development, adoption, and awareness! :guilty: :imho:

Whether what you type in redirects, as such, or not, is not the point...

...What you experience on your mobile device is the only thing that will determine success, or failure, for .mobi...

Look at it this way....On your mobile device:

* If you type into your mobile device: bofa.mobi - you get a fast, designed-for-mobile, easy to navigate, result.

* If you type into your mobile device: bofa.com/mobile - you get a fast, designed-for-mobile, easy to navigate, result.

* If you type into your mobile device: bofa.com - you get to Bank of America's site, but, it takes longer to download, and you scroll around a lot.

So, on all three you get to Bank of America....Its only about which is easiest to use on a mobile - and gets folks what they want, best.

Do these access choices say .mobi is dead?

No....It just says the market has a choice of access to sites on their mobile device...

Personally, of the three, I think typing in bofa.mobi on my mobile is the easiest way to get Bank of America's info on my mobile......ie short to type in + No scrolling & cheaper to d/l than bofa.com....

In time, the market out there - ie users - will decide which they choose to use...

...Only then can anyone pronounce - with credibility - on .mobi's dead, or alive, status.

And, not before.

.
