People will start seeing the url like spoken language, eat.me, drink.cocacola, open.tv, visit.athens and so on.
There's already a defined "language" for the internet. It's called GET PUT POST DELETE on a resource. I see more transition to resource than to natural language.
In a world with .coke, .sports. .anything, most people will assume there is a .TV.
But just because they exist doesn't mean they get used. The usage is also very restrictive and limited - shrinking the pool of useful names (which will likely be controlled).
When was the last time you visited Coke.com would people even know there was a .coke? Why would they go there? rewards.coke, I suppose.
But these sites have limited commercial appeal. That is, limited to the brand at hand. I don't think I've EVER been to coke.com so a lot of these TLD are not really designed for end user / viewer appeal imho
One of the selling points of .TV is "video centric" and not "television centric". Wouldn't someone owning .video get more interest from video sites?
What about .studio? .shop? .pr? or any other collection? .tv might work for just Television companies. This could certainly shrink the pool of usefulness.
I don't think this is the case but the argument that TV means something and can be used as thisunfortunately then limits things to what TV means !
Most interesting, dotTV Contract Renewal coincides with the launch of new gTLDs.
Lets hope that they don't see $$$$$$. .TV is just getting to a better place. They could just easily kill .TV as re-affirm its value.
This environment provides a 'Perfect Storm' opportunity to attract the deepest media pockets to the .TV table, ink a long term contract, and re-relaunch dotTV as 'the new extension to watch'.
Would be nice for some of the better .TV portfolio holders (not me)
(Now if the new operator could turn dotTV into an "icloud" for TV content, distributing content on 'show & sell' themed channels -and paying affilliate domainers in the process... that would be a sweet 'turn-key franchise' extension).
It's this kind of thinking that I'm talking about and will ultimately make a few people rich. I'm glad you see this too.. would render TVCloud.com somewhat useless though, maybe
.TV is too far gone for that concept, however. This might be what .MEDIA could do? Killing .TV?
It will be the controlled turnkey cloud vs the freedom of the open internet.
This battle will be fought by all TLDs. Personally, there is space and room for both but there will be huge battles for control. It will start with business but govts can't stay out of this crap.
I've read the article on this but I still think that .com .net .org will always be the most popular and well known throughout the world.
Always is a very very long time.
Let them bring on .WTF, and .Gay, and .XXX and .Coke and .WalMart, etc...
True Story:
It will only help the Dot TV extension because you could add any word or acronym you want to the hundreds of tld's that already exist but nothing in the World will ever compare to the brandable, visionary and just downright F-ing Cool and Sweet Sounds of Dot TV.
.
Tell it like it is V. I can always rely on you to be excited and downright forcefully pro-TV. I hope it
continues to serve you well.
I do solemnly believe that .TV is a great extension. I think .TV will actually change meaning from Television and become synonymous with media packets/delivery. I think the concept of "channels" will go away and be replaced by packets of content: channels within channels - or bursts of TV content.
I like Burst.TV. I would trade many of my names for that one (if Fred is around).. same for Markhers Tip.TV .. lol
Not sure that makes sense but I'm too lazy to expand it out too much more. I'm all style over substance anyway.. choke the eye with bluster and drivel!
