The US Dollar has been falling in comparison with other currencies around the globe for quite a while now. Congratulations Canada, our dollars are the same now (actually yours are worth more than US dollars).

Things are starting to make sense. Rising stock market at record highs. Rising oil prices at record highs. Rising real estate at record highs (well, except for a recent dip). Dollar goes down, prices go up and records are set.

I see purchasing power being eroded as inflation skyrockets for certain items.

So, if things continue, be very excited about rising PPC and rising domain values. However, since dollars will probably be worth less, perhaps you will be no better off.

Just my observations...

Bertiewooster,

this stuff you are talking about I don't know much about at all. But it is very interesting. I am sure all of us know one thing, that all is not what it seems and we are being prepared to be fleeced.

If we can learn from each other at least something about it then this thread will be worth the discussion.

Sure I'll take your bet too but the king of the US economy would be better comparing as I don't know what currencies you are refering too (some currencies may outperform gold perhaps)

If you are willing to go 1oz gold closing price NY vs S&P500 closing price today we have a bet!

SP&500: 1,552.58
1oz gold: 732.50

today's closing prices

Remember the bet from October 8th. Maybe time for a little update:

October 8th:
SP&500: 1,552.58
1oz gold: 732.50

October 27th:
SP&500: 1,535.28
1oz gold: 783.50

So it seems I'd be winning the bet! Because the S&P500 lost 1,10% and Gold gained 6,50% since October 8th! Good for me and good for everyone that got some gold.

Remember that it is still not too late to buy some gold (the sell time-frame will between 6-12 years from now).

Enjoy and thank me later!

Domain stock market

Awesome stats for gold. You are right the gold bugs are winning. Paper money is floating away.

Wonder how the domain market compared in that time?.

Come on, I know there is a math wizard out there who loves charts and can give us a comparison to standard and poor, gold and our business domains.

Anyone know of a program that tracks the value of domains?

The American Economy is 300 million large and will survive this mini recession! The country is flagged with debt and if it was to act as a typical consumer in North America it would have already claimed bankruptcy! Lets face it war's ain't cheap and China/Japan pretty much own all the American currency already. So the country is in major debt and has no money to pay the interest. But as I mention at the beginning of the post you're economy is very strong and you will continue your growth after maybe 5 - 7 years!

2012 - 2017 will be a large increase in the American currency.

USA dollar is tanking

Brian

in most recessions the USA economy has been strong and we were able to come out of it after a short painful recession. The reason? We had great factories and we produced more products cheaply than most other nations, so we were strong exporters.

This time though our folly with the Bush administration may be a different ending. We are into debt over NINE TRILLION dollars!

This time around our growth was not so much production from our factories.

Our economic growth was spurred solely by real estate. That real estate boom was artifically created by a government that wanted to create a QUICK booming economy. So when Bush wanted war, he also wanted a strong economy to fund it.

To accomplish that they cranked up the money machine, the printing presses. Create massive amounts of debt thru borrowed money and get it into the banking system. Then make the money available to almost anyone they could give it to. That happended on a massive scale and was done quickly.

After months of huge realestate borrowing, that spurred the economy.

So much money was poured into our economy thru banking loans that real estate profits started soaring. Many homes doubled in price in only months. In the past the real estate boom growth was much slower, ( your parents homes only doubled after they lived in them their whole lives).

Second mortgages were taken out against the huge home equity profits and that money was also fueling the economic growth.

Loans were given to almost anyone who wanted into the boom, even those who had poor credit. The first houses that went up in value were in places like Southern California and other more expensive palces to live. Many of those people sold their homes at a huge profit and moved to smaller communities, thus spurring the housing markets there too.

In a short period of time Americans were blinded into thinking America was booming and all was right in the homeland. Irag war was now a lower priority as a booming economy was creating oppourtunites everywhere. People were so happy with the new prosperity, why worry about the massive debt piling up, we were getting rich here in the USA, all you had to do was buy a house, or build a house or 'FLIP" a house.

Then the result we are seeing today, so much fiat money floating around that its value started declining. Now the dollar is not just going down, it is dropping like an albatross. It will get worse as those who are lemming investors get the painful picture that the good ol USA dollar is good only for wiping .... ... !

Dump, dump, dump the dollar will be the song of the day.

Gold will be the only way to save your assets then.

The trouble is when you have miles high of paper money and that paper money tries to convert to gold the panic will set in. When "big" money bails on the currency and tries to get into the safe haven only gold or silver provides to those investors, then gold will seek its true value.

To the extent the fiat money has been diluted that will transfer to golds high ending price. You decide, an ounce of gold or a truckload of useless American dollars. During times of monetary crisis, new laws will happen and we may see an adoption of the Amero of some other forced new monetary action.

The USA economy was not built by strong factory growth, or investments in fixing up our industries. We were an economy based on defense contractors and home sales.

Now dependant on oil, we have made very little investments in oil self suffiency. We will find ourselves more and more at the heals of offshore oil.

The only hope for a stronger USA economy is oil at a low barrel price below $40.00. That will spurr our economy.

That is also a pipedream.

Everyone in the USA thought this boom would go on forever and did not realise it was not a real economic strong growth period, but one that was pretty much based on real estate. Based on a purpose, spurring the economy with fiat money.

Now the shit is hitting the fan and our economy is tanking.

Our dollar is in a free fall. If our economy was based on a long period of factory production and growth of our national product and international growth we would be ok and we would more than likely come out of it.

The situation is worse than we are being told and the real estate market will continue to slow the USA economy down. It will do more than that, it will also slow down all world economies. You will realise how much it will slow the world economies down when other modern countries bail on our dollar.

We are in the beginning stages of a US dollar dumping. Will it be strong enough to keep us afloat? Or will it freefall?

Your trust in the USA government and its fiscal history of late will make your decision for you. The trust of the USA government by other countries that hold massive amounts of our greenbacks is a different matter and you have no control over how they will react.

This time around the reaction will be swift and hard. It will be dump those dollars, plummenting the world into a recession or depression worse than ever experienced.

Have a happy day!

The dollar is backed by NOTHING!! No commodity index, no gold, NOTHING!

Private banks create dollars out of thin air!

Imports surpass exports.

Let us not forget the US owes the world TRILLIONS of dollars and the national debt has been deemed unrecoverable.

Countries are pulling all of their dollar reserves out and exchanging them for Euros! It may not matter much when Iran does this, but if China does this, be ready for a historic plunge.

Who can fix this BS and take us off of the fiat money system?

RON PAUL!

The dollar is backed by two things: paper & TRUST. So is every FIAT currency on this planet.

Ron Paul won't change this. Ron Paul is America's wake up call but I don't know if America wants to wake up, the dreams are so sweet.

In any case, tomorrow is FED day. If they cut 50 basispoints let hell break loose for the $$$

Nothing much to whistle about, the problem with the ยฃ doing so well is that it potentially costs jobs. Any company that exports to the US will either lose orders or take a cut in profit and the people who suffer are the workers.

Its awesome we have so many alert domainers here who understand money. I enjoy the many comments here and opinions I have not thought about. Even though we are kind of going off from Bills post here he has pretty much allowed it to go on.

I have a confession about my domains and the falling dollar, my new interest is domains and money! Has the falling US dollar moved you to register or to change the way you have been doing your domain business?

On "domains and the falling dollar" I wonder about values of domains. I live on the U.S. side of the Canada border and I have noticed much activity from The Canadians wanting to buy products with their dollar, now that it has surpassed the American one.

My question is since their dollar has risen from around .65 cents to over $1.00 in only months time, will more of our names be sold to them? I say that because as we speak they are buying much more American property with their windfall.

Their dollar has historically been weak compared to the U.S, dollar, but this time around I think the Canadian dollar will remain strong. The reason? In the past they have had a government that taxed the hell out of the citizens and spent more than they had.

At the present time though the Canadian government is awash in money as they have reduced their debt and spending, something America cannot seem to understand with the Bush administration, hence the continued pressure for fiat spending and inflation.

Oil at $92.00 a barrel puts us all in the slowdown mode as the oil works its way to the pumps and every product or service pays for its use.

The only hope in hell that high prices don't overtake the economy is oil below $40.00 a barrel. That is a pipedream though.

Well the current dollar rate is very good for US exports and foreigners willing to buy US goods (like domains). However it is a knife that cuts on both sides since the domain market's main currency is US$.
Oil at 40$, 90$ or 200$ is realy irrelevant in inflationary times. If you want to measure your wealth you should measure it in hard assets. And with hard assets I don't necessarily mean gold or silver.

Hopefully I will know a bit more about the path we're walking after today's FED decision.
If we cut 50 basis points it will actualy mean: **** the world, we don't care about the dollar. You borrowed us the money, well we can't repay
If we cut 25 basis points it will mean the current credit situation is very bad but we won't admit it (yet)
If they do nothing then we probably are going to undergo a recession in the near term

It's a 25 rate cut. The FED bought some more time

high oil prices trigger inflation

I wasn't saying you can measure your wealth with the high price of oil.

I was saying oil zooming up to $94.00 a barrel is a trigger for more inflation.

I also said the only hope for the near future to keep us from going into a deep trough of inflation is "if" oil went down to $40.00 or lower a barrel. Like I say that is a pipedream, so you can expect more inflation.

Agree but it is due to "monetary inflation" that oil prices are soaring! It is because the FED has been inflating the world with billions of $$$ every day. Of course it's a matter of demand too but I believe most of the runup in oil prices is due to the deflating dollar. If you think those sheiks are going to buy a rolex less because the US prints excess money...no, they manipulate the oil price upwards for every drop in the $.
(monetary) inflation causes rising oil prices and rising oil prices cause (consumer price) inflation

Very true Pergamon,

all the rising prices can be traced to the monetary supply.

Of course everyone else is too blame according to the white house.

In the last large inflation period during 1979 they blamed opec. But it is really the huge increase in paper money prior to inflation that the blame can be attributed too. Rising commodity prices, embargos, price controls and every other hardship placed on modern society is a direct result of fiat money.

This is like what is happening in Australia at the moment (especially Sydney). House & land prices have skyrocketed, loans and mortgages have been given out like confetti and everyone has been fooled into thinking the economy is thriving and strong. Credit and and personal debt is at an all time high and everyone has been manipulated into thinking that if the economy is strong and "if everyone else can afford it then we can too"... I think there will be a big landslide in property prices in the near future here, the bubble is about to burst. :hehe:

I just herd on the news that US interest rates have been cut, yes it s true (details), this means the us dollar will go down further which is bad news for some of us :td:
