I haven't seen another thread about this on the first page (lol at least I looked), so I'll ask it..

Why the craze of .in domains? What's so special about the Indian TLD?

Probably the same craze over the cio.us domains...alot of words end with "in".

That and the fact that there is rapid industrialization and growth of India as an internet capable population. Although there are still many who don't have the internet, the amount of users getting online and even owning computers is growing fairly quickly. They also have a large English speaking block that contributes to the appeal. All this spells out potential for many.

Very little, they are third rate extensions with little chance of success.

I just don't see how a country of only just over one billion people many of whom speak english can justify their own tld. :hehe:

Just because they are one of the leaders in IP technology etc and have their own silicone valley, a cheap work force that is willing to learn, a government that is throwing huge funds at internet and IT development and many other countries are outsourcing technology related business to them. Even the massive tourist industry only generates a few billion $'s.

No, just don' t see it happening anybody holding so called premium .co.in/.in names shoudl be selling them off very cheaply

This might have something to do with it.

In March 2005, Internet World Stats reported that there were 39 million Internet users in India.

..expected to grow to 100 million by 2007, according to the Internet & Online Association of India.

It's Simple, india is one of the fastest growing countries in IT, and business over internet is just catching up.

I would say, Whoever has india domain names , just hang on to them for a while.

Although I am very hesitant about entering a co.in/.in thread while you are present, wot, :hehe: I must say, old boy, that your story has certainly taken a sudden turn concerning your opinion of these domains.
Uh..I say, what's that you say, old boy? Something a bout a tongue I think. Ah yes, a tongue, a tongue. By jove, I think I've got it. Tongue in cheek! You were speaking with your tongue in your cheek! ha ha. I say, that was rather good, that, really... quite good, old chap, really quite good, indeed.

wot, I agree. I see a tremendous upside potential for these names, even more so, and sooner than I do, on a global basis, for .cn because of, among other things, the english factor that you mentioned. Following the incubation and early growth stages, co.in/.in is going to take off in leaps and bounds. It's a shame that, from what I have seen, the names you have registered are all of such a premium quality, that I can't afford to buy any from you. However, since the last time we have spoken about about this subject, I have managed to ferret out one or two fairly good ones from those that are still avail. Looks like you have positioned yourself very well, over the coming years, as the domain market catches up to the value of the namespace.

Despite these words of support, I still think you are an awnry ol' coot.

What is the difference between .co.in and .in ? Which one is used the most in india today? What extention would get the most type in traffic and say by how much, India.in or India.co.in ? I would think .in but I'd like more info on this if anyone is willing to share :)

The .in and .co.in domains do have good upside potential due to its progress in IT sector imho.

"Steve, why do you keep registering .in and .co.in" frowns the wife
" but but honey (as everyone says above)" i reply with a big smile
Wife replies " oh i see but still give me your bank card"

I sulk

seriously there is huge potential in the .co.in and .in domains as -DB- and others have stated.

Not really. Reference was to your upcoming 60th and was posted w/ good spirited intentions. Sorry. Will have to be more careful about messages where the context may be too vague. B-)
