Why do so many domaining companies use terrible domain names?
e.g. GoDaddy (should be an adult site), spaceship, porkbun, domaineasy etc.

Also, many domain brokers use such bad domains that my soul hurts. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚

Could "domain" refer to something else? Sure, but within the context of domaining the word domain is more relevant.

The buyer decides what is a good name and what is not every day. The one he chooses to buy is good because it sold. Whether you approve of the name or not is irrelevant.

Nobody knows what name is going to sell next not the guy at this twenty years or the guy who thinks he is a pro after two weeks.

Best to remain humble and not judge other peopleโ€™s names or branding choices.

They are doing the picking and the paying end user price not you.

We could all look at each others names and declare what sucks but itโ€™s pretty foolish and arrogant to do so when names you wouldnโ€™t bother to buy sell every single day.

There is a brandable domain Daazling, com , it sounds magical if you ask me, maybe they can rebrand.

Your name is just a washing powder and nothing else to me. I imagine other people will have the same response upon hearing or seeing your name.

Have to admit it took me back to the days of my mother and her box of Daz.

Still, they're a British company so let's hope they clean up.

I am sure the company will have thought of that name and perhaps some other variations when they then were choosing a name, but discarded them in favour of what they have.

By the way, in your logo/avatar, I see 2 triangles, an arrow rising from the bottom and another shape that looks like a house, all on top of a black background. Are you aware of this?

Agreed. It's best not to be too critical about other people's domain name choices, because in the end it's the buyers and end-users who decide what's valuable, not us. We might have our own ideas about what makes a great domain name, but at the end of the day, it's the sales that count

This thread isn't about selling and buying domain names. It's about names as they exist for real domain name businesses.

Perhaps you need to re-read the OP.

Despite claims of "these are good names", every name that has appeared in this thread is average to poor or silly. The problem for this space is that it's a niche space and so all those who operate in it will never have names that are golden, kickass or become famous. Only GD has done that, slightly, because of their size and narcissism.

Plus since everything only exists digitally, mass awareness of any name by the general public will never happen, and so none will ever get anywhere near the status of all the famous brands in history, who made real products.

After 27 years, what are you expecting domain owners to "understand" that they don't already about you? Strong brands aren't built overnight, but after 27 years where are you? I wouldn't say you are even a brand at all.

Are you sure they've been going that long?
They were only registered as a Ltd Co. in Aug 2018.

Have to say though, their landers look a lot more appealing than the AN/GD ones.

For those that think GoDaddy is a terrible name, I'll just leave this here.

let's assuming what u listed is bad/terrible names, then, I think the reason they are bad is just because is other company who own a better/greater name not so successful than these company...another way of "Survivorship bias"

I was going by the date they registered the domain, which is 18 April 1998. Unless they have revealed when their website became active, we won't really know when their business started.

In case you want to get to a much higher position in the English speaking world (not necessary for some people/some people don't care, I accept that), I suggest you learn better English than what you have exhibited here. Otherwise, you'll remain in the small and insignificant place where you are now.

This might not have much to do with their name though. Granted, it's a striking "what do they do" kind of name and through their acquisitions, they have become bigger.

Still they are a indescribably shit company, with shit practices and shockingly poor levels of security and detestable attitudes and I haven't ever heard someone celebrating or being proud of being a GoDaddy customer.

I am surprised they have lasted as long as they have. Perhaps once enough of their key staff get fed up with working there, one or more of them will forge new companies and then perhaps, they will find a way to take them down.

I for one will be popping a few champagne bottles upon hearing such news and I don't even drink alcohol.

More or less nothing. If you have to point something out in a name with capital letters or some other finagling, it's a huge red flag.

As is asking about a name on a forum.

That's exactly my point. A name has nothing to do with success. Who cares if a company has a terrible name. Customers don't care. Wall Street doesn't care.

As for your personal gripes that GoDaddy is a sh*t company, I'll just leave this here

I think all those domains are doing just fine, especially compare to these established websites:

whorepresents.com: (read: Who Represents) - Agency database
penisland.net (read: Pen Island) - selling Pens

That would be a terrible domains if we are not spell it carefully.
