.mobi Telephone.mobi - Sign of .mobi's Future?

Looking at how Telephone.mobi, surely one of the best .mobis around, sold for $4k is not a good sign for the .mobi extension? Don't get me wrong, I have some .mobis and am not trying to destroy the extension but it is starting to seem that, along with the sales at TRAFFIC, sales prices aren't as high as one would hope. I am starting to think that as the hype starts to cool down, so will the prices we get for .mobi domains.

What on Earth does telephone have to do with .mobi? First of all, the "hip" target market of .mobi has probably never heard such a word (they grew up calling it a phone) and a large portion of this target market uses nothing other than their cell (their slang for cell phone).

This is an out of date term which has no mobile relevance in this day and age IMHO. Remember the days when everybody called their PDA a Palm Pilot (even if it wasn't made by Palm)?

Dont loose heart, its an old name, as Reece says most people call them phone(s) and mobiles. Still $4000 is good for a generic name that just 1 year old, so dont dispare.

LOL. Telephone.mobi, $4k is a decent price for this name.

We are talking mobile and phone today :)

Gooster, I definitely agree with you that overall "sales prices aren't as high as one would hope" (for these, by and large, premium .MOBI domains) IMHO. :guilty: :yell:

Again, the most important aspect here is not the final auction prices (of which, by the way, we are still waiting for many confirmations of final sales verification from the DNJ of the domains referenced above, the respective Buyers, and specific development & promotion plans!) ... it is their unique and compelling DEVELOPMENT for those that are "on the go"! :talk: :imho:

I humbly predict continued aftermarket .MOBI Malaiseโ„ข for the next 6 months+/- and until we see these actual developments and promotion (including mTLD reinvesting these massive auctions :$: proceeds into an MAJOR branding and promotional effort to support these mandated developments (and Buyers))! :snaphappy:
Now, it's all about the "ecosystem" in my view.

NO ONE knows the future, of course ... and I'd be interested in hearing your humble and professional two sense.
Thanks.

4k was good for telephone in my opinion.

i also thought phonenumbers sold for too big a price,(i know potential but just dont like the name) so its all swings and roundabouts. same way some coms sell way over what they should, others sell way under.

theyre not different breeds, all domains, all tlds :sold:
as sedo now testify too :sold:

beauty is in eye of beholder too, never forget that

gooster it's not about the sales, its all albout the development like Jeff said. telephone.mobi not selling for IYO enough money does not mean .mobi is doomed for failure. just do us all a favor, choose your words differently next time you want make a post like this. it pisses all of us off. stay positive.

Lol, trust me, I want to be positive - I have a lot of money tied up in this TLD. I am not simply slagging off the extension, but rather expressing concern over a name that I personally would have expected (or rather, hoped) to sell for a higher amount. Of course I accept the views of others about the name being outdated, etc. but put it this way: Telephone.com would sell for far more than $4k, yet .mobi is trying to appeal as the replacement for .com for mobile communication (i.e. telephones).

vision, i'll float you a plugged quarter for using my bifocals.mobi for your point. i have your paypal.. :)

:| before 'plugged nickels' there were 'plugged quarters' and 'plugged dimes'. The various versions of the phrase appear in the 1880s. The nickel, being a lower denomination coin, lends itself better than quarters and dimes to a phrase expressing worthlessness. Oddly though, the lowest denomination coin is the cent and the phrase 'not worth a plugged cent' doesn't appear until later. The earliest I've found for that is 1908.

"telephone" is not that great a term for mobi.

maby the old generation would like it but not the new generation.

Cell, mobile, mobile phone, cell phone .mobi ect ect all better terms then "telephone.mobi"

LOL. Another reason why I like three and four letter domains - If there is not a overt meaning, then that meaning cannot be outdated.

BTW, I still use typewriters.

$4,000 is a low price for telephone.mobi. It could have gone higher. The buyer got a good deal and has potential to sell much higher in the future.

Its a good name but not that good. Seriously, when was the last time that you heard someone use the word "telephone?"

For a name to have 310 million google results, it must be used a fair amount!
