Just noticed someone recently registered the .com to my gtld website. I previously had a bad experience with someone trying to cyber squat off my business before (4 years ago). I registered this gtld in 2016 but redirected it to a page of a similar website I own. I decided a few months ago to use that gtld and that web page and create an entire website from it. It ranks on Googles first page and is gaining some attention.

The gtld was registered in 2016 and I use to always check the .com version of it. It was always available until I made it a separate website. I partially regret not having registering it (especially after my previous experience) but now I always register the plural and singular version of domain names in the .com, .net, .org and .co...and frankly that can get expensive. I currently have 3 businesses with all domains covered.

Im not that worried as I did take one protective measure and just filed for a trademark (before contacting the owner of the domain) to see what they're selling it for. Even though it would be quite difficult to copy my website because of the database, I can at least limit how similar their website is to mines.

Well if you wanted it why didn't you buy it? I understand not getting the .net, .org, etc. but the .com? C'mon man.

What's the issue or question that you have or were you just sharing your thoughts publicly?

I didn't buy the .com because the gtld was originally used to redirect to a page of a website I own (pretty much how Amazon is using "Amazon.pet"). Then i decided move that web page and create an entire website from it and I was undecided about registering the .com

Filing for a trademark after they’ve registered the domain may not help you that much. If they end up copying your website or infringing on your property in an obvious way, then there are pathways for you to get it, but if they just hold on to it or a different business opens up on the name drawing traffic away from your website, then you may not have a lot of options other than shelling out whatever they ask for.

On another note, not to be that guy, but there’s zero excuse to not spend $8 on the wordword.com (if it’s available) when you register/operate on a word.word.

Well I registered and started using mines in 2016 , they registered theirs a few months ago. The website offers a pretty unique concept that no other site offers. Im actually no longer perusing the domain because of my trademark. This is just a story im sharing.

    Best Regards
