Just noticed someone recently registered the .com to my gtld website. I previously had a bad experience with someone trying to cyber squat off my business before (4 years ago). I registered this gtld in 2016 but redirected it to a page of a similar website I own. I decided a few months ago to use that gtld and that web page and create an entire website from it. It ranks on Googles first page and is gaining some attention.
The gtld was registered in 2016 and I use to always check the .com version of it. It was always available until I made it a separate website. I partially regret not having registering it (especially after my previous experience) but now I always register the plural and singular version of domain names in the .com, .net, .org and .co...and frankly that can get expensive. I currently have 3 businesses with all domains covered.
Im not that worried as I did take one protective measure and just filed for a trademark (before contacting the owner of the domain) to see what they're selling it for. Even though it would be quite difficult to copy my website because of the database, I can at least limit how similar their website is to mines.
