Are there any other potential sellers out there that are concerned about the fact that SnapNames has yet to announce the auction catalog for their Sept showcase auction? At the time of this posting the auction is less than 5 days away.
One of the sales channels that I often look to when considering selling a domain is auctions (particularly live auctions). For a well publicized auction, at the right event, you can get very active bidding and strong sales. However, to draw in the buyers it needs to be well publicized. Particularly in this slow market. The buyers aren’t waiting in the wings the way they were a year + ago. Now they need to be drawn in with effective marketing of the domains being sold. In a market like this the auctioneer should be increasing their marketing to generate the necessary attention and demand. That’s why I’m so concerned by SnapNames’ lack of effort with this very important business practice. Given some of their recent experiences (TRAFFIC’s change to Rick Latona; the poor results from the Internext auction) I would have expected them to step up and increase their efforts. Unfortunately I don’t see evidence of that. I hope my concerns are mis-founded and their auctions deliver stellar results, but it just seems as though they could be putting more effort into promoting them.
