Slashdot: On The Way Out?

I’m wondering aloud if Slashdot hasn’t slowly begun sinking below the horizon with the advent of rivals Digg and Newsvine? I know that lately Slashdot is the last check on my news run .. I wonder how many others feel the same.

It’s not that they don’t do what they do well.. it’s that Slashdot, to me, lacks freshness. In that I mean, they need to redo their presentation. It’s looked the same forever and, frankly, it’s boring and pales beside Newsvine’s in particular. Digg has that “I’m accessible” appeal to me.. it’s just as newsy but speaks to me directly.

Be interesting to see who survives the present shakeout.. for my money, I’m betting on Newsvine when it comes out of Beta.

Oh... Slashdot is the best, the first website i go to when i wake up.
Its just preference, i dont like much change! Will stick to it forever... hehe !

You're right, of course, that it's a matter of preference but Digg, for one, has been quickly overtaking Slashdot in the numbers game..

Oh... Slashdot is the best, the first website i go to when i wake up.

I must say, I'm a frequent visitor to Digg, a few months back, Slashdot was my homepage.

I prefer the community feel that Digg gives you.

I think interative news communities are the Hot commodity on the Web these days.. the shakeout will determine which cream rises to the top.

Slashdot is the best. There is no way they will go under. The only thing I have against slashdot is the look and feel of the site. Their information is at the top, everyone here reads it.

As I remarked above, Slashdot is the last stop on my run these days.. Newsvine is the first, Digg second, The Drudge Report, etc.. and finally, Slashdot.
