It’s been such a long time since I’ve made such a thread. Believe me: the last year of my life had been very colorful. Aside from it all, I know an update is needed. I’ve made a few threads about it all but forum searches aren’t showing up any results, thus I can’t link to anything. I’ll have to go from scratch but because of this, I won’t use as many details from he past (it’d be far too much to type out).

I am a Section Leader as a favor to Ron & Rachel James (the owners of NamePros). Early last year, I decided that I wanted to pursue other endeavors and thus had to retire from domaining, as it killed a lot of my time. Rachel (NPQueen) is a very nice woman. She offered me a chance to moderate here as a way for me to stay in the community. I love NP and many of the people here. I didn’t want to just say “Bye!” and leave. I was offered a mod position and took it; the Section Leader promotion came well over a year later.

What was I wanting to pursue? As many of you know, I am an author, having written a book and at the time of my retirement, I was working on a second. I needed to finish the 2nd book and get started on my 3rd, a memoir. After doing some thinking, I knew that I had to do my 2nd and 3rd concurrently, thus I retired so I could focus on such a big task. As it turned out though, they were never written concurrently at all, aside from one chapter of the 3rd that I wrote around the earlier days of retirement. Surely you’ve seen me selling and buying domains after the ‘retirement’ was announced. Oh, there is a long story... one that I’m not too keen to divulge into but I think I must, for clarity.

The post I made about it is somewhere in NP but I can’t locate it. If you hadn’t already, read this: http://thetelegramnews.com/main.asp?ArticleID=11265&SectionID=6&SubSectionID=83 It was written on the 19th of September, last year, but the accident happened on the night of the 18th. I was about 300+ pages into my 2nd book at the time that it happened. And upon those events, I more or less stopped writing for several months. I tried but couldn’t muster anything. The time was spent on other things. Domaining was a form of pacification to me. I sold off my domains throughout the first few moths of retirement and tried to buckle down to get the 2nd book completed. Then there came the night of September 18th. I wasn’t able to focus any on my work. Instead, I put my focus on Justin Truman and his family. There was a concert I staged in his honor, helped monetarily by many of the kind people here at NamePros. I’ve never posted pics of the show; there might be a few people questioning if the concert even took place. I have the pics but never uploaded them anywhere yet, after all this time. I’ll do that tonight or tomorrow, I’m hoping.

So, that was the past. What is the present? In mid July of this year, the 2nd book was completed. I had to watch its length closely. It’s about 132,000 words but I’ll revise it & knock 10-15,000 words off of it. The 1st book, if you remember, was lost, due to a psycho ex-fiancé, but with luck, skill, and over $300, I got a copy back. I am currently revising it, hoping to be finished by New Years. Hope, I’ll let you know, is a disgusting, cruel word. There is one more sickening but... I’ll not get into it right now. But still, I hope.

There will be a 2nd part to the 2nd book, which I’ve named “When You Leave This Way,” and there could possibly be a 3rd part to it. I am a prolific writer when I sit down to write. A 2nd part shouldn’t take long to do. My memoirs, however, are the next thing in queue. They will hopefully (there’s that damned hope variant again) be written and completed by summer of 2012, assuming the world doesn’t end. The 2nd part of this series will likely be written by new years of next year. The title of it will be, chances are, “When It’s Lost.”

In the case that anyone’s wondering: I am still an un-agented writer. I’ve never once attempted to seek out an agent. That will be done early next year; if I’m lucky, I’ll have my first book (titled “Dehumanizer”) sold by year’s end.

The present had seen quite a few other things. For one, I grew sick and tired of living alone & after arrangements were made, my sister (Traci) and I got a house together. I currently live with her and her husband & daughter. They’re all great people and I’m truly happy to be where I am. For a record straightened: I’ve been single several months now. I’m an open guy and wouldn’t mind talking about it but for now, let’s just say that I’ve grown jaded with it. We’ll see what the future holds.

And what the future will hold might or might not be good. I’ll have to take things one day at a time. It still saddens me that things took this long just to be where they are now. That’s the song-and-dance of life though, I suppose. It’s all been kind of a blur to me, the last 16 or so months. I’ll try to get www.justintruman.net set up this week, to mark 1 year since, and I’ll do SOMETHING with randypendleton.com. Am I un-retired? Eh, I guess you can call it what you’d like. I’m ridding of most of the domains I still have (see my sig if interested) and focusing on a select few. But writing is my priority right now. No one knows what the future holds--except that Harold Camping guy. The world ended, as he predicted, but fortunately I had a backup on a spare server--and maybe that’s the best way to be. Ya know, to NOT know. I’ll write my books, do these websites, and see where to go next. Will I leave NP anytime soon? Fear not: I’ll be around for awhile. In fact, I agreed recently to be a contributing writer for the soon-to-be-released NP newsletter. So yeah, I’ll be here, in whatever capacity I can be. I told Rachel that although I wanted to retire, I just couldn’t leave this place. Those words, over a year later, are still as relevant and hold the same weight... if not, more.

As I’m an open guy, feel free to ask me anything via in this thread. I’ll be more than happy to answer all/any questions you may have :)

Hmmm... what could you do with RandyPendleton.com?

Err... I don't know. Put up a personal blog? You can just link to it from here. I have seen many successful bloggers do that here.. I think it's some kind of SEO/Backlink strategy.

I had mentioned the accident had made me think recently

Good luck with your book sale/agent search etc.

I might just point randypendleton.com to my facebook page for now. Yeah, you mentioned the accident; for some reason, I couldn't find any mentioning of the link on search. NP is going through some changes as I type. That might have had something to do with it.

Thanks for the well-wishings, truly. Believe me: All of this is a challenge and I need all the support I an get.

Good luck with your writing. It's a worthy endeavor albeit a tough one. If you need an editor, drop me a line. Can't give all the hours a novel requires, but I can help, nonetheless.

Can I assume you have checked out Createspace.com as a quick way to get published and promoted without an agent?

It takes awhile to do these things but they're worth it in the end. The editing is the real pain, not the writing itself. If I need help, I'll drop you a line. Appreciate your offer greatly :)

Writing books is a big endeavor but only the best get published by standard publishers. I could have my work published by a vanity publisher but there is no pride into that. ANYONE can write a book. I suppose I'm arrogant but I want my work published because ppl thought it was worthy to be. Places like you mentioned are for less-than-par writers. Vanity books rarely sell more than 26 copies, as well. I've worked too long to not have my work read by the mainstream :p
