Yesterday I was thinking about what all this is about. Life, I mean. And I realized that at the moment there are few things that really make me want to get up every morning.

I love developing websites. It’s a joy and a delight to see people using something that I’ve created. And while it might not be quite the same as making something physically, the fact that these projects take on a life of their own is something special.

developing websites keep me awake at night, lines of code running away into the distance, functions and elements battle in my head, layouts and colors tormenting my eyeballs. They force me to spend hours of time one a computer, when I could be out doing parkour, or training for muay thai, or spending time with the wife and friends. Websites always demand more attention, there’s always one more feature that needs to be added, one part of the system that just doesn’t do what it should

I love developing domains. I love the fact that when people ask me my job I can say "graphic designer-web developer". It fills me with happiness to know I’m a part of the biggest and newest technological advancement of modern times, that "the internet" is becoming part of everyones daily existence, and I’m there as one of the few who actually "Makes Websites". I have a vip pass into the hallowed inner sanctum of the web. I get emails that are addressed to "The Webmaster".

I love making things work, writing bits of code that Do Things. Bits of code that Make Things Happen. Bits of code that Are Useful. I love being a creator, it’s like having children and knowing that you made them exactly what they are. I feel protective about my code - even the bad bytes. My code tells a story, the new functions and techniques I’ve learned, the ways I’ve managed to strip kilobytes off a file size, the designs that just look great.

code is poetry. sigh :hearts:

I know exactly what you mean. I love seeing things I do, work. It's an incredible thing and it's the reason I love coding. I hope to get decent at graphics and better at domaining so I can be a decent part of the industry and community.

But yeah, I get what you mean.

I have very limited design skills and use html editing programs and my basic knowledge of html to make simple minisites or just one page landers on many of my domains. I share the feeling and spirit of this post although I am not yet familiar with lots of coding functions and elements. I have a couple blogs that are doing pretty well, it's neat to watch the traffic rise as the content grows. I just wish I would have gotten into all of this cool stuff way earlier when I first started domaining as a hobby back in the early 00's.. Well, I actually took a break from a designing a minisite to write this reply. Thanks for the sharing nodws, repped + to you. :)

edit - just realized this is my 2800th post, that's kind of cool and I just recently turned 28..hehe

hey congrats on your 2800th post ;)

Thanks on your input ppl. Its wonderful doing something you love and get paid on top of that, having all these ideas on your sleep, sketching ideas on a napkin, day dreaming and having that "eureka" moment ending up writing code on paper, the feeling of getting mails entitled "you got a payment from..." its like xmas morning :)

I would be in bliss if the ideas/designs/sites/etc. that are constantly coming to mind could create themselves. I always come up with basic ideas and get excited when I picture them, but the amount of work it takes to put up even something simple is always a lot more than what you think when you're just thinking of the broad picture. I think I'm in week 4 now of developing a site which honestly seemed simple enough that it should have taken a few days! But nothing ever goes as plan and there's always 10 little details for every 1 big detail, etc.

Simply finding cool domains is a lot more fun without the responsibility, lol.

writing code on paper
I used to do that when I was really poor. Way back when I was in middle school, running my angelfire site, I didn't own a computer. I was allowed on the library computers for one hour a day which is where I updated my site. That wasn't nearly enough time for me, so I used to go home, write html code on notebook paper along with the content I wanted so when I went to the library the next day, I could just hurry up and type it all up within that hour.

I wish I wouldn't have stopped. If I had continued back then rather than stopping and picking back up recently, I could be doing very well right now.

edit: Wow, I just logged into my angelfire account for the first time in probably about ten or eleven years. It still exists, but unfortunately all my pages are gone. :(

yes I know what you mean, back in the old days when we had just a few hours of 28k internet :p
we used to update our sites as soon as possible, thats if no one picked up the phone and disconnected us xD

Me, too. I love analyzing codes to get their actual appearance. I love experimenting and learning web design techniques though it makes my brain bleed. :p However, my sites are always in "under construction" stage because there are many other things competing my time or my thoughts. :p This is one thing I would like to improve on and tell myself: "Next time, lady, finish what you've started." :)

I love developing. But I have times when I am doing it just because I am now doing it on professional basis.

At first it was feeling like over burdened but I soon figured out how to keep developing without getting burdened.

I'm still a beginner, but I'm into developing too. :D I learn something new every single time, and I really hope that one day I'll be able to take this to a professional level.
