Hi Guys,

Please tell me if it is worth to invest in .biz, .us or .cc extensions?

I have come across some good keyword domains but afraid to invest in these domains.

IMO these extensions hardly qualify as 'investments'.
Investments should have liquidity . Stuff that is not in demand is not liquid. It may be more a liability than an asset.

As always, look at reported sales, see which extensions and types of domains do sell and how often.
You need to do your homework, also keep in mind that the people pumping a particular TLD may have a vested interest or simply be subjective.

You're saying 'I have come across some good keyword domains', I guess you are talking about domain names that are available. If they are still available, you need to ask yourself why.
I think that in 2012 it's very difficult to make good money on regfee domains. You need to look to the aftermarket/drops, and allocate your budget toward domains that are already worth something today, not in some remote and unlikely future. Raise the bar high enough: solid domains, solid extensions. Fewer domains but high-quality.
But maybe I misunderstood your actual intentions :)

Better question is do you have a firm grasp of what makes a domain valuable? (No offense)
Who will you sell to?
Why are these "good keyword domains" still available?

IMHO stick with .COM until you are profitable.

Good Luck

Frankly speaking, I am total a newbie in this field. Its just been a month when I have come to know about this domaining thing. So just want to make sure I don't invest in crap.

Please also tell me, do you ever register hyphenate domains? If they show high exact searches, high CPC and also good appraisal value (through estibot etc. )??

Stay away from hyphenated domains unless you have some plan to develop them. For investment purposes they are worthless unless they are exceptionally good keywords. You admit you are new in this field, so it's very risky for you to invest in such names.

And while you are it, avoid the appraisal tools.
I know I repeat myself all the time, but automated appraisals are worthless.

A bot cannot teach you what makes a domain valuable :!:
You need to be your own appraiser.

Search volume, CPC, etc: this is some of the data relevant for a domain that you would develop. No guarantee it would get traffic or buyers. But if the name doesn't look good, nobody will want it.

So, to repeat myself: observe the market, analyze the reported sales, and try to get a feel for what kind of names do sell. Don't jump in too fast because it's too easy to lose money with domains, especially when you're starting out.

The best, most concise, and wisest statement I've ever read on these forums. IMO.

Stay away from .biz, .us, .cc and hyphenated domains. Only invest in .com. Depending on how much you have to spend, LLL.com (might be considered investment grade) and some LLLL.com have value (but hard to find an end-user), but avoid all the non-premium letters of the alphabet. My best luck have been with keywordkeyword.com domains, but it's easy to get it wrong, and I'd say keep under 12 characters in length (max). Nothing is easy.

What about .net and .org?

What exactly I want to ask is there are few names for which either one extension is developed out of .com, .net and .org and one is parked and one unregistered. It shows good exact search, high CPC, quality name but only doubt which comes to my mind is how come one extension is parked undeveloped?

In that case should I go for these domains and take a risk as they have the potential to be sold, or simply search for something else?

Stick with .com. Net doesn't have anything going for it except as a poor mans .com (I know, extreme, but you get my drift). There is some profit in org, if it's a blog, health, political domain, but I'd always prefer to own the .com. Stick with .com. You could lose a lot of money investing in .net or .org, as a newbie.

if you get sports.biz for $xxx-low $xxxx good investment,
if you get a good bargain on a premium/superpremium .biz/tv ,maybe good investment,

reggin available names in these ext is a waste of time $$

These domains have value with names that closely align with what they stand for. For example, 'patriot.us' may be worth as much if not more than 'patriot.com'. It just reaches a deeper part of the mind and this is good for promotions and advertising. 'Flags.us' is another such that comes to mind.

No, no and no. .com or bust is my motto, but there are some worthy .net and .org domains. Anything else is not a good investment if you ask me. People always want .com and will always want.com

I do agree with staying away for unregged names, but what do you guys think about CC, LL, NN, NNN names in these same extensions the OP is talking about?

.Biz should be avoided unless You have brand protection in mind, Or a clear business development plan.. The best advice is to go with .com when ever possible
